Psalm 22
For the Chief Musician; set to “The Doe of the Morning.” A Psalm by David.
My God, my God, whyhaveyou forsaken me?
Why are yousofarfrom helping me, andfromthe words ofmy groaning?
My God, I cry inthe daytime, butyou don’t answer;
inthe night season, and am not silent.
Butyouare holy,
youwho inhabit the praises of Israel.
Our fathers trusted inyou.
They trusted, andyou delivered them.
They cried to you, and were delivered.
They trusted in you, and were not disappointed.
ButI am a worm, andno man;
a reproach of men, and despised bythepeople.
All those who see me mock me.
Theyinsultmewiththeir lips. They shake their heads, saying,
“He trusts inYahweh.
Let him deliver him.
Let him rescue him, since he delights inhim.”
Butyoubroughtmeoutofthe womb.
Youmademe trust whileatmy mother’s breasts.
10 I was thrown onyoufrommy mother’s womb.
Youaremy God sincemy mother bore me.
11 Don’t be farfromme, for trouble is near.
For there is no one to help.
12 Many bulls have surrounded me.
Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me.
13 They open their mouths wide against me,
lions tearing prey and roaring.
14 I am poured outlike water.
Allmy bones areoutof joint.
My heart islike wax.
Itis melted withinme.
15 Mystrengthis dried uplikea potsherd.
My tongue sticks tothe roof ofmy mouth.
Youhavebroughtmeintothe dust of death.
16 For dogs have surrounded me.
A company of evildoers have enclosed me.
Theyhave pierced my hands and feet.So Dead Sea Scrolls. Masoretic Text reads, “Like a lion, they pin my hands and feet.”
17 I can count allofmy bones.
They look and stare atme.
18 They divide my garments amongthem.
They cast lots formy clothing.
19 But don’t befaroff, Yahweh.
Youaremy help. Hurry to help me!
20 Deliver my soul fromthe sword,
my precious life fromthe power ofthe dog.
21 Savemefromthe lion’s mouth!
Yes, youhaverescuedmefromthe horns ofthe wild oxen.
22 I willdeclareyour name tomy brothers.
Among the assembly, I will praise you.
23 You who fear Yahweh, praisehim!
All you descendants ofJacob, glorify him!
Stand in awe ofhim, all you descendants of Israel!
24 Forhehasnot despised nor abhorred the affliction ofthe afflicted,
neitherhashe hidden his face fromhim;
butwhenhecriedtohim, he heard.
25 Mypraiseofyoucomesinthegreat assembly.
Iwillpaymy vows beforethosewhofearhim.
26 The humble shall eat andbe satisfied.
They shallpraiseYahwehwho seek after him.
Let your hearts live forever.
27 Allthe ends ofthe earth shall remember andturntoYahweh.
Allthe relatives ofthe nations shall worship beforeyou.
28 ForthekingdomisYahweh’s.
Heisthe ruler overthenations.
29 Allthe rich ones ofthe earth shall eat and worship.
Allthosewhogodowntothe dust shall bow before him,
evenhewho can’t keep his soul alive.

Future generations shallbe told aboutthe Lord.
