The River of Life and the Tree of Life
1 Then the angel showed me a *river 44.5% ¦ pure river PCK RP TR 54%river of the water of life, as bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 through the middle of the street of the city. On each side of the river is the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, with each month yielding its own fruit. I Am Coming Quickly
6 Then the angel said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God of the †spirits of the 62.3% ¦ holy TR 25.6% ¦ spirits of the holy MSS 7%spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place.
7 “Behold, I am coming quickly. Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”
8 I, John, am the one who ‡heard and saw these things 54.8% ¦ saw and heard these things 35.5% ¦ saw these things and heard them TR 2.5%heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me. 9 But he said to me, “Do not do that! §I 98% ¦ For I TR 2%I am a fellow servant of yoʋrs, and of yoʋr brothers the prophets, *and of those 61.9% ¦ — PCK 38.1%and of those who obey the words of this book. Worship God.”
10 Then he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. 11 Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still †do right 82.7% ¦ be righteous TR 9.1% ¦ {omit and the righteous still do right} MSS 5.6%do right, and the holy still be holy.”
12 “Behold, I am coming quickly, and my reward is with me, to repay each person according to their works. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, ‡the first and the last, the beginning and the end 49.5% ¦ the beginning and the end, the first and the last PCK TR 40%the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
14 Blessed are those who §keep God's commandments 88.3% ¦ wash their robes CT 6.6% {Note: The main Greek text literally reads do his commandments.}keep God's commandments, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by its gates. 15 Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the fornicators, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.
16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and offspring of David, the bright morning star.”
17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. And let anyone who wishes to do so take the water of life freely.
18 *I 95.9% ¦ For I TR 1%I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to them, †may God 50% ¦ God will ANT CT TR 40.7%may God add to him the ‡plagues 54.4% ¦ seven plagues PCK 41.5%plagues that are written in this book. 19 If anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, §may God 51% ¦ God will ANT CT TR 45.3%may God take away his share in the *tree 97.9% ¦ book TR 1%tree of life and in the holy †city, which 98.5% ¦ city and in the things that TR 1%city, which are written about in this book.
20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. ‡So shall it be. 65.6% ¦ — CT 30.8%So shall it be. Come, Lord Jesus!
