1 All Israel was registered by genealogy, and their names are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel. Judah was carried into exile to Babylon because of their unfaithfulness.
2 The first inhabitants to settle on their property in their cities were Israelites, priests, Levites, and temple servants. 3 Some descendants of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh lived in Jerusalem: 4 Uthai son of Ammihud, son of Omri, son of Imri, son of Bani, from the descendants of Perez son of Judah; 5 from the Shilonites, Asaiah the firstborn and his sons; 6 and from the descendants of Zerah, Jeuel. Their relatives numbered 690. 7 From the descendants of Benjamin: Sallu son of Meshullam, son of Hodaviah, son of Hassenuah; 8 Ibneiah son of Jeroham; Elah son of Uzzi, son of Michri; and Meshullam son of Shephatiah, son of Reuel, son of Ibnijah. 9 Their relatives, according to their generations, numbered 956. All these men were heads of ancestral houses.
10 From the priests: Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, Jachin, 11 and Azariah son of Hilkiah, son of Meshullam, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, the officer in charge of the house of God;

Shallum was the chief. 18 To this day they serve at the King’s Gate on the east. They were the gatekeepers for the camps of the descendants of Levi. 19 Shallum son of Kore, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his relatives from his ancestral house, the Korahites, were responsible for the work of service as keepers of the thresholds of the tent. Their ancestors had been responsible for the camp of the LORD as keepers of the entrance. 20 Phinehas son of Eleazar had been their leader in earlier times, and the LORD was with him. 21 Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was gatekeeper at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 22 All those chosen as gatekeepers at the thresholds numbered 212. They were registered by genealogy in their villages. David and Samuel the seer had appointed them to their positions of trust. 23 They and their sons guarded the gates of the house of the LORD, the house of the tent, in shifts. 24 The gatekeepers were stationed on the four sides: east, west, north, and south. 25 Their relatives in their villages were to come from time to time to serve with them for seven days. 26 The four chief gatekeepers, who were Levites, held positions of trust and were responsible for the rooms and treasuries of the house of God. 27 They spent the night around the house of God because they were responsible for guarding it and for opening it every morning. 28 Some of them were responsible for the utensils used in service; they counted them when they brought them in and when they took them out. 29 Others were appointed over the furnishings and all the utensils of the sanctuary, the fine flour, wine, oil, frankincense, and spices. 30 Some of the priests mixed the fragrant spices. 31 Mattithiah, one of the Levites, the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, was entrusted with preparing what was baked in pans. 32 Some of their relatives, the Kohathites, were responsible for preparing the bread set out in rows every Sabbath.
33 The singers, heads of ancestral houses among the Levites, stayed in the rooms and were exempt from other duties, because they were occupied with their work day and night. 34 These were heads of ancestral houses among the Levites, leaders according to their generations. They lived in Jerusalem.
35 Jeiel, the father of Gibeon, lived in Gibeon, and his wife’s name was Maacah. 36 His firstborn son was Abdon, followed by Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab, 37 Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah, and Mikloth. 38 Mikloth was the father of Shimeam. They too lived in Jerusalem with their relatives, opposite their other relatives.
39 Ner was the father of Kish, and Kish was the father of Saul. Saul was the father of Jonathan, Malchi-shua, Abinadab, and Esh-baal. 40 Jonathan’s son was Merib-baal, and Meri-baal was the father of Micah. 41 The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, and Tahrea. 42 Ahaz was the father of Jarah, and Jarah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri. These were the sons of Azel.
