22
1 You shall not see your brother’s ox or an animal from his flock straying and ignore them. You shall surely return them to your brother. 2 If your brother is not near you or you do not know him, bring the animal into your house, and it shall stay with you until your brother seeks it. Then return it to him. 3 Do the same for his donkey, do the same for his garment, and do the same for anything your brother has lost and you find. You may not ignore it.
4 You shall not see your brother’s donkey or ox fallen on the way and ignore them. You shall surely help him lift them up.
5 A woman shall not wear a man’s attire, and a man shall not put on a woman’s garment, for everyone who does these things is an abomination to the LORD your God.
6 If you come upon a bird’s nest along the way, in any tree or on the ground, with young birds or eggs, and the mother is sitting on the young or the eggs, you shall not take the mother with the young. 7 You shall surely let the mother go, but you may take the young for yourself, so that it may go well with you and you may prolong your days.
8 When you build a new house, make a guardrail for your roof, so that you do not bring bloodguilt on your house if someone falls from it.
9 You shall not sow your vineyard with two kinds of seed, lest the entire yield become consecrated, both the crop from the seed you sow and the produce of the vineyard.
10 You shall not plow with an ox and a donkey together.
11 You shall not wear cloth of wool and linen mixed together.
12 Make tassels on the four corners of the garment with which you cover yourself.
13 If a man takes a wife, goes in to her, and hates her, 14 and accuses her of shameful conduct, gives her a bad name, and says, ‘I took this woman, but when I approached her I found no evidence of virginity in her,’ 15 then the young woman’s father and mother shall take the evidence of the young woman’s virginity and bring it to the elders of the city at the gate. 16 The young woman’s father shall say to the elders, ‘I gave my daughter to this man as a wife, and he hates her. 17 Now he has accused her of shameful conduct, saying, “I found no evidence of virginity in your daughter.” But here is the evidence of my daughter’s virginity.’ Then they shall spread out the cloth before the elders of the city. 18 The elders of that city shall take the man and punish him. 19 They shall fine him about two and a half pounds of silver and give it to the young woman’s father, because he has given a bad name to a virgin of Israel. She shall remain his wife; he may not divorce her all his days.
20 But if the matter is true and no evidence of virginity is found for the young woman, 21 then bring the young woman out to the entrance of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death, because she has done a disgraceful thing in Israel by committing sexual immorality in her father’s house. So you shall purge the evil from among you.
22 If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, both of them shall die, the man who lay with the woman and the woman. So you shall purge the evil from Israel.
23 If a young woman who is a virgin is betrothed to a man, and a man finds her in the city and lies with her, 24 then bring both of them out to the gate of that city and stone them to death: the young woman because she did not cry out in the city, and the man because he humiliated his neighbor’s wife. So you shall purge the evil from among you.
25 But if the man finds the betrothed young woman in the field, and the man overpowers her and lies with her, only the man who lay with her shall die. 26 You shall do nothing to the young woman; the young woman has committed no sin deserving death. For this case is like that of a man who rises against his neighbor and murders him. 27 For he found her in the field; the betrothed young woman cried out, but there was no one to save her.
28 If a man finds a young woman who is a virgin and is not betrothed, seizes her and lies with her, and they are discovered, 29 then the man who lay with her shall give the young woman’s father about one and a quarter pounds of silver. She shall be his wife because he has humiliated her; he may not divorce her all his days.
30 A man shall not take his father’s wife or uncover his father’s covering.
