26
1 In the eleventh year, on the first day of the month, the word of the LORD came to me: 2 “Son of man, because Tyre said about Jerusalem, ‘Aha! The gates of the peoples are broken! She has turned to me. I will be filled, for she is laid waste,’ 3 therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: I am against you, Tyre. I will bring many nations up against you, as the sea brings up its waves. 4 They will destroy the walls of Tyre and tear down her towers. I will scrape her dust from her and make her bare rock. 5 She will be a place for spreading nets in the midst of the sea, for I have spoken, declares the Lord GOD. She will become plunder for the nations. 6 Her daughter towns in the countryside will be put to the sword. Then they will know that I am the LORD.
7 For this is what the Lord GOD says: I will bring Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, a king of kings, against Tyre from the north, with horses, chariots, horsemen, an assembly, and many people. 8 He will put your daughter towns in the countryside to the sword. He will set up siege works against you, pile up a siege ramp against you, and raise a large shield against you. 9 He will direct the blows of his battering ram against your walls and tear down your towers with his swords. 10 The dust of his many horses will cover you. Your walls will shake at the sound of horsemen, wheels, and chariots when he enters your gates as men enter a breached city. 11 With the hooves of his horses he will trample all your streets. He will kill your people by the sword, and your strong pillars will fall to the ground. 12 They will plunder your wealth, loot your merchandise, tear down your walls, and demolish your beautiful houses. They will put your stones, timber, and dust into the water. 13 I will put an end to the noise of your songs, and the sound of your lyres will no longer be heard. 14 I will make you bare rock, a place for spreading nets. You will never be rebuilt, for I, the LORD, have spoken, declares the Lord GOD.
15 This is what the Lord GOD says to Tyre: Will not the coastlands shake at the sound of your fall, when the wounded groan and slaughter is carried out within you? 16 All the princes of the sea will come down from their thrones, remove their robes, and strip off their embroidered garments. They will clothe themselves with trembling, sit on the ground, tremble at every moment, and be appalled at you. 17 They will take up a lament over you and say to you, ‘How you have perished, you who were inhabited by seafarers, renowned city that was strong on the sea! She and her inhabitants spread their terror to all her inhabitants. 18 Now the islands will tremble on the day of your fall; the islands in the sea will be terrified at your passing.’
19 For this is what the Lord GOD says: When I make you a devastated city, like cities no longer inhabited, when I bring the deep up over you and the great waters cover you, 20 I will bring you down with those who descend to the pit, to the people of long ago. I will make you dwell in the depths of the earth, like ruins of old, with those who descend to the pit, so that you will not be inhabited. And I will set splendor in the land of the living. 21 I will make you a terror, and you will be no more. Though you are sought, you will never be found again, declares the Lord GOD.”
