65
1 “I let myself be sought by those who did not ask for me;
I let myself be found by those who did not seek me.
I said, ‘Here I am, here I am,’ to a nation not called by my name.
2 I spread out my hands all day long to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not good, following their own thoughts,
3 a people who continually provoke me to my face, sacrificing in gardens and burning incense on bricks,
4 who sit among the graves and spend the night in secret places, who eat pork, with broth of unclean things in their vessels,
5 who say, ‘Keep to yourself;
do not come near me, for I am holier than you.’ These are smoke in my nostrils, a fire burning all day long.
6 Look, it is written before me: I will not keep silent, but I will repay;
I will repay into their lap
7 your iniquities and your fathers’ iniquities together,” says the LORD.
“Because they burned incense on the mountains and reviled me on the hills, I will measure into their lap the recompense for their former works.”
8 Thus says the LORD: “As when new wine is found in a cluster and someone says, ‘Do not destroy it, for there is a blessing in it,’ so I will act for my servants’ sake, so as not to destroy them all.
9 I will bring forth offspring from Jacob, and from Judah an heir of my mountains.
My chosen ones will inherit it, and my servants will dwell there.
10 Sharon will become a pasture for flocks, and the Valley of Achor a resting place for cattle, for my people who seek me.
11 But you who forsake the LORD and forget my holy mountain, who prepare a table for Fortune and fill vessels with mixed wine for Destiny,
12 I will destine you for the sword, and all of you will bow down for slaughter, because I called and you did not answer;
I spoke and you did not listen.
You did evil in my eyes and chose what did not please me.”
13 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “Look, my servants will eat, but you will be hungry;
look, my servants will drink, but you will be thirsty;
look, my servants will rejoice, but you will be put to shame.
14 Look, my servants will sing for joy of heart, but you will cry out in pain of heart and wail from a broken spirit.
15 You will leave your name as a curse to my chosen ones;
the Lord GOD will put you to death, but he will call his servants by another name.
16 Whoever blesses himself in the land will bless himself by the God of truth, and whoever swears in the land will swear by the God of truth, because the former troubles are forgotten and hidden from my eyes.
17 For look, I am creating new heavens and a new earth;
the former things will not be remembered or come to mind.
18 But be glad and rejoice forever in what I am creating, for look, I am creating Jerusalem as a delight and her people as a joy.
19 I will rejoice in Jerusalem and delight in my people;
the sound of weeping and the sound of crying will no longer be heard in her.
20 No longer will there be an infant there who lives only a few days, or an old man who does not fulfill his days.
For the young man will die at a hundred years old, and the sinner at a hundred years old will be accursed.
21 They will build houses and inhabit them;
they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
22 They will not build for another to inhabit or plant for another to eat;
for the days of my people will be like the days of a tree, and my chosen ones will long enjoy the work of their hands.
23 They will not labor in vain or bear children for calamity, for they are the offspring of those blessed by the LORD, and their descendants with them.
24 Before they call, I will answer;
while they are still speaking, I will hear.
25 The wolf and the lamb will graze together, the lion will eat straw like the ox, and dust will be the serpent’s food.
They will not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain,” says the LORD.
