26
1 You must not make idols for yourselves or set up a carved image or a sacred pillar for yourselves. You must not place a stone with a carved image in your land to bow down before it, for I am the LORD your God. 2 You must keep my Sabbaths and revere my sanctuary. I am the LORD.
3 If you walk in my statutes, keep my commandments, and carry them out, 4 I will give you your rains in their season. The land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall give their fruit. 5 Your threshing shall last until the grape harvest, and the grape harvest shall last until sowing time. You shall eat your bread to the full and live securely in your land. 6 I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down with no one to frighten you. I will rid the land of harmful wild animals, and no sword shall pass through your land. 7 You shall pursue your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword. 8 Five of you shall pursue a hundred, and a hundred of you shall pursue ten thousand. Your enemies shall fall before you by the sword. 9 I will turn toward you, make you fruitful, multiply you, and establish my covenant with you. 10 You shall eat produce from old stores, and clear the old away to make room for the new. 11 I will set my dwelling among you, and my soul shall not abhor you. 12 I will walk among you and be your God, and you shall be my people. 13 I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt so that you would no longer be their slaves. I broke the bars of your yoke and made you walk upright.
14 But if you do not listen to me and do not carry out all these commandments, 15 if you reject my statutes and your soul abhors my ordinances, so that you do not carry out all my commandments and so break my covenant, 16 then I, too, will do this to you: I will appoint terror over you, wasting disease and fever that consume the eyes and drain life. You shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. 17 I will set my face against you, and you shall be defeated before your enemies. Those who hate you shall rule over you, and you shall flee with no one pursuing you.
18 If, despite these things, you still do not listen to me, I will go on disciplining you sevenfold for your sins. 19 I will break the pride of your strength. I will make your skies like iron and your earth like bronze. 20 Your strength shall be spent in vain. Your land shall not yield its produce, and the trees of the land shall not give their fruit. 21 If you act against me in hostility and refuse to listen to me, I will add a sevenfold plague upon you according to your sins. 22 I will send the wild animals of the field against you. They shall bereave you of your children, destroy your livestock, and reduce your numbers, and your roads shall be deserted. 23 If you are not corrected by these things and still act against me in hostility, 24 then I myself will act against you in hostility, and I myself will strike you sevenfold for your sins. 25 I will bring a sword against you to exact vengeance for the covenant. You shall gather into your cities, and I will send pestilence among you, and you shall be delivered into the enemy's hand. 26 When I break your staff of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven and return your bread by weight. You shall eat but not be satisfied.
27 If, despite this, you do not listen to me and still act against me in hostility, 28 I will act against you in furious hostility, and I myself will discipline you sevenfold for your sins. 29 You shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters you shall eat. 30 I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars, and put your carcasses upon the carcasses of your idols. My soul shall abhor you. 31 I will make your cities a ruin and desolate your sanctuaries. I will not smell your pleasing aromas. 32 I myself will desolate the land, and your enemies who settle in it shall be appalled at it. 33 I will scatter you among the nations and draw a sword after you. Your land shall be desolate, and your cities shall be a ruin. 34 Then the land shall enjoy its Sabbaths throughout the days of its desolation, while you are in the land of your enemies. Then the land shall rest and enjoy its Sabbaths. 35 Throughout the days of its desolation it shall rest, because it did not rest during your Sabbaths when you lived on it. 36 As for those of you who remain, I will bring faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. The sound of a windblown leaf shall pursue them. They shall flee as from a sword and fall, though no one pursues. 37 They shall stumble over one another as before a sword, though no one pursues. You shall have no strength to stand before your enemies. 38 You shall perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies shall devour you. 39 Those of you who remain shall waste away in their iniquity in the lands of their enemies. They shall also waste away with them in the iniquities of their ancestors. 40 If they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their ancestors, their unfaithfulness in which they were unfaithful to me, and also that they acted against me in hostility 41 (I will also have acted against them in hostility and brought them into the land of their enemies), or if then their uncircumcised heart is humbled and they accept the punishment of their iniquity, 42 then I will remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac. I will also remember my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land. 43 The land shall be abandoned by them and enjoy its Sabbaths while it lies desolate without them. They shall accept the punishment of their iniquity precisely because they rejected my ordinances and their soul abhorred my statutes. 44 Yet even with all this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them or abhor them so as to destroy them completely and break my covenant with them, for I am the LORD their God. 45 For their sake I will remember the covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, to be their God. I am the LORD.’ ” 46 These are the statutes, ordinances, and laws that the LORD established between himself and the Israelites on Mount Sinai through Moses.
