1 Moses spoke to the heads of the tribes of the Israelites, saying, “This is what the LORD has commanded: 2 If a man makes a vow to the LORD or swears an oath to bind himself with an obligation, he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that comes from his mouth. 3 If a woman makes a vow to the LORD and binds herself with an obligation while in her father’s house in her youth, 4 and her father hears her vow and the obligation with which she has bound herself, and her father remains silent toward her, all her vows shall stand, and every obligation with which she has bound herself shall stand. 5 But if her father forbids her on the day he hears of it, none of her vows or obligations with which she has bound herself shall stand. The LORD will forgive her, because her father has forbidden her. 6 If she marries while her vows are upon her, or a rash utterance of her lips with which she has bound herself, 7 and her husband hears of it and remains silent toward her on the day he hears of it, her vows shall stand, and her obligations with which she has bound herself shall stand. 8 But if her husband forbids her on the day he hears of it, he annuls the vow that is upon her and the rash utterance of her lips with which she has bound herself. The LORD will forgive her. 9 The vow of a widow or a divorced woman, every obligation with which she has bound herself, shall stand against her. 10 If she makes a vow in her husband’s house or binds herself with an obligation by an oath, 11 and her husband hears of it and remains silent toward her and does not forbid her, all her vows shall stand, and every obligation with which she has bound herself shall stand. 12 But if her husband does annul them on the day he hears of them, nothing that came from her lips concerning her vows or her binding obligation shall stand. Her husband has annulled them, and the LORD will forgive her. 13 Every vow and every binding oath to humble herself, her husband may confirm, and her husband may annul. 14 But if her husband remains silent toward her from day to day, he confirms all her vows or all her obligations that are upon her. He has confirmed them because he remained silent toward her on the day he heard of them. 15 If he does annul them after he has heard of them, he shall bear her iniquity.” 16 These are the statutes that the LORD commanded Moses between a man and his wife, between a father and his daughter while in her youth in her father’s house.
