1 Deliver me from my enemies, my God;
set me safely on high above those who rise against me.
2 Deliver me from those who do evil, and save me from bloodthirsty men.
3 For look, they lie in wait for my life;
fierce men gather against me, not for my transgression or my sin, LORD.
4 Without guilt on my part they run and take their stand.
Awake, come to meet me, and see!
5 You, LORD, God of hosts, God of Israel, awake to punish all the nations;
be gracious to none of the treacherous evildoers. Selah.
6 They return at evening, growling like a dog and prowling around the city.
7 Look, they pour out words from their mouths, with swords on their lips, for they say, “Who hears?”
8 But you, LORD, laugh at them;
you mock all the nations.
9 In the face of his strength I watch for you, for God is my stronghold.
10 The God of my steadfast love will meet me;
God will let me look upon those who watch for my downfall.
11 Do not kill them, lest my people forget;
make them wander by your might and bring them down, Lord, our shield.
12 For the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride, for the curses and lies they tell.
13 Consume them in wrath;
consume them until they are no more.
Let them know that God rules in Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah.
14 Let them return at evening, growling like a dog and prowling around the city.
15 Let them wander in search of food and grumble if they are not satisfied.
16 But I will sing of your strength and shout for joy at your steadfast love in the morning, for you have been my stronghold and my refuge in the day of my distress.
17 My strength, I will sing praise to you, for God is my stronghold, the God of my steadfast love.
