Leviticus.
Chapter 21.
The LORD said to Moses, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and tell them, ‘No priest may make himself unclean for a dead person among his people,
except for a close relative: his mother, his father, his son, his daughter, or his brother,
or his virgin sister who is close to him and has not had a husband; for her he may make himself unclean.
As a husband among his people, he must not make himself unclean and so profane himself.
They must not make bald patches on their heads, shave the edges of their beards, or make cuts in their bodies.
They shall be holy to their God and must not profane the name of their God, for they present the LORD's offerings by fire, the food of their God; therefore they shall be holy.
They must not marry a prostitute or a woman who has been profaned, nor may they marry a woman divorced from her husband, for he is holy to his God.
You must regard him as holy, for he presents the food of your God. He shall be holy to you, for I, the LORD who sanctifies you, am holy.
If a priest's daughter profanes herself by prostitution, she profanes her father; she must be burned in the fire.
The high priest among his brothers, on whose head the anointing oil has been poured and who has been ordained to wear the garments, must not uncover his head or tear his garments.
He must not enter where there is any dead body, nor may he make himself unclean for his father or his mother.
He must not leave the sanctuary or profane the sanctuary of his God, for the consecration of his God's anointing oil is upon him. I am the LORD.
He must take a wife in her virginity.
He must not take a widow, a divorced woman, a woman who has been profaned, or a prostitute. He must take a virgin from his people as his wife,
so that he does not profane his offspring among his people, for I am the LORD who sanctifies him.’”
The LORD spoke to Moses and said,
“Speak to Aaron and say, ‘Throughout their generations, no man among your descendants who has a physical defect may approach to present the food of his God.
No man who has a physical defect may approach: a man who is blind or lame, has a disfigured face or an overlong limb,
a man with a broken foot or a broken hand,
or one who is hunchbacked or undersized, or has cloudiness in his eye, itching sores, scaly skin, or a damaged testicle.
No man among the descendants of Aaron the priest who has a physical defect may approach to present the LORD's offerings by fire. He has a physical defect; he must not approach to present the food of his God.
He may eat the food of his God, both the most holy things and the holy things.
But he must not come to the veil or approach the altar, because he has a physical defect, so that he does not profane my holy places, for I am the LORD who sanctifies them.’”
Moses spoke to Aaron, his sons, and all the Israelites.
