2 Samuel.
Chapter 6.
David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand.
David and all the people with him set out from Baale-judah to bring up from there the ark of God, over which the Name is invoked, the name of the LORD of hosts, who is enthroned above the cherubim.
They placed the ark of God on a new cart and brought it from Abinadab’s house on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, Abinadab’s sons, were driving the new cart.
They brought it from Abinadab’s house on the hill, with the ark of God, and Ahio walked in front of the ark.
David and the whole house of Israel were celebrating before the LORD with all kinds of instruments made of cypress wood: lyres, harps, tambourines, rattles and cymbals.
When they came to Nacon’s threshing floor, Uzzah reached toward the ark of God and took hold of it, because the oxen stumbled.
The LORD’s anger burned against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error. He died there beside the ark of God.
David was angry because the LORD had broken out against Uzzah. He called that place Perez-uzzah, as it is called to this day.
David was afraid of the LORD that day and said, “How can the ark of the LORD come to me?”
David was unwilling to bring the ark of the LORD to himself in the City of David, so he took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.
The ark of the LORD stayed in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite for three months, and the LORD blessed Obed-edom and his entire household.
King David was told, “The LORD has blessed Obed-edom’s household and everything he has because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought the ark of God up from Obed-edom’s house to the City of David with joy.
When those carrying the ark of the LORD had taken six steps, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened animal.
David danced before the LORD with all his might, wearing a linen ephod.
David and the whole house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting and the sound of the ram’s horn.
As the ark of the LORD entered the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul looked out through the window. She saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD and despised him in her heart.
They brought in the ark of the LORD and set it in its place inside the tent David had pitched for it. David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.
He distributed to all the people, the whole multitude of Israel, both men and women, a loaf of bread, a portion of meat and a raisin cake for each person. Then all the people went home, each to his own house.
David returned to bless his household. Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, “How the king of Israel has honored himself today, uncovering himself before his servants’ female slaves, as one of the worthless men shamelessly uncovers himself!”
David said to Michal, “It was before the LORD, who chose me over your father and his whole house to appoint me ruler over the LORD’s people Israel. I will celebrate before the LORD.
I will make myself even more contemptible than this and be lowly in my own eyes. But among the female slaves you spoke of, among them I will be honored.”
And Michal daughter of Saul had no child until the day of her death.
