1 Chronicles.
Chapter 13.
David consulted with the commanders of thousands and hundreds, with every leader.
Then David said to the whole assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you and comes from the LORD our God, let us send word far and wide to our relatives who remain throughout the territories of Israel, and to the priests and Levites with them in their cities with pasturelands, so they may gather to us.
Let us bring the ark of our God back to us, for we did not attend to it in the days of Saul.”
The whole assembly agreed to do so, for the proposal seemed right to all the people.
So David assembled all Israel, from Shihor of Egypt to the entrance of Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.
David and all Israel went up to Baalah, that is, Kiriath-jearim in Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, the LORD, who is enthroned above the cherubim, the ark that bears his name.
They transported the ark of God on a new cart from the house of Abinadab, with Uzza and Ahio driving the cart.
David and all Israel were celebrating before God with all their might, with songs, lyres, harps, tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets.
When they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzza reached out his hand to steady the ark because the oxen stumbled.
The anger of the LORD burned against Uzza, and he struck him down because he had reached out his hand to the ark. He died there before God.
David was angry because the LORD had broken out against Uzza. He called that place Perez-uzza, and it is called that to this day.
David was afraid of God that day and said, “How can I bring the ark of God to me?”
So David did not bring the ark to himself in the City of David, but took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.
The ark of God remained with Obed-edom’s household in his house for three months, and the LORD blessed Obed-edom’s household and everything he had.
