1 Chronicles.
Chapter 22.
Then David said, “This is the site of the house of the LORD God, and this is the altar of burnt offering for Israel.”
David ordered the resident foreigners in the land of Israel to be gathered, and he appointed stonecutters to prepare dressed stones for building the house of God.
David prepared abundant iron for the nails of the gate doors and for the fittings, and so much bronze that it could not be weighed.
He also prepared cedar timber beyond counting, for the Sidonians and Tyrians had brought David cedar timber in abundance.
David said, “My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the LORD must be exceedingly magnificent, renowned and splendid throughout all lands. So I will make preparations for it.” David made abundant preparations before his death.
He summoned his son Solomon and charged him to build a house for the LORD, the God of Israel.
David said to Solomon, “My son, I had it in my heart to build a house for the name of the LORD my God.
But the word of the LORD came to me: ‘You have shed much blood and fought great wars. You are not to build a house for my name, because you have shed much blood on the earth before me.
A son will be born to you who will be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his enemies around him. His name will be Solomon, and I will give Israel peace and quiet in his days.
He will build a house for my name. He will be a son to me, and I will be a father to him. I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’
Now, my son, may the LORD be with you, and may you succeed in building the house of the LORD your God, as he has spoken concerning you.
May the LORD give you insight and understanding when he puts you in charge of Israel, so you may keep the law of the LORD your God.
Then you will succeed if you are careful to carry out the statutes and ordinances that the LORD commanded Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid or discouraged.
With great effort I have prepared for the house of the LORD about 4,000 tons of gold and 40,000 tons of silver, and bronze and iron too abundant to be weighed. I have also prepared timber and stone, and you are to add to them.
You have many workers: stonecutters, workers in stone and wood, and men skilled in every kind of work,
with gold, silver, bronze, and iron beyond counting. Rise and get to work, and may the LORD be with you!”
David also commanded all the leaders of Israel to help his son Solomon:
“Is not the LORD your God with you? Has he not given you rest on every side? He has given the inhabitants of the land into my hand, and the land has been subdued before the LORD and before his people.
Now set your heart and soul to seek the LORD your God. Rise and build the sanctuary of the LORD God, so the ark of the covenant of the LORD and the sacred utensils of God may be brought into the house built for the name of the LORD.”
