1 Chronicles.
Chapter 28.
David assembled in Jerusalem all the leaders of Israel: the tribal leaders, the commanders of the divisions serving the king, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, the officials over all the property and livestock of the king and his sons, along with the court officials, the mighty men, and all the valiant warriors.
King David stood up and said, “Listen to me, my brothers and my people. I had it in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD and for the footstool of our God, and I made preparations to build it.
But God said to me, ‘You are not to build a house for my name, because you are a man of war and have shed blood.’
Yet the LORD, the God of Israel, chose me out of my whole father’s house to be king over Israel forever. He chose Judah as ruler, and from the house of Judah, my father’s house; and among my father’s sons he was pleased to make me king over all Israel.
Of all my sons—for the LORD has given me many sons—he chose Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.
He said to me, ‘Your son Solomon will build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him to be a son to me, and I will be a father to him.
I will establish his kingdom forever if he remains firm in carrying out my commandments and ordinances, as he is today.’
Now, in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the LORD, and in the hearing of our God, observe and seek out all the commandments of the LORD your God, so you may possess this good land and leave it as an inheritance to your children after you forever.
And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with an undivided heart and a willing soul, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every intention of the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.
Consider now: the LORD has chosen you to build a house as a sanctuary. Be strong and do it.”
David gave his son Solomon the plan of the porch, its buildings, its storehouses, its upper rooms, its inner rooms, and the room for the mercy seat.
He also gave him the plan of all that he had in mind for the courts of the house of the LORD, all the surrounding rooms, the treasuries of the house of God, and the treasuries of the dedicated things;
for the divisions of the priests and Levites, all the work of service in the house of the LORD, and all the utensils for service in the house of the LORD.
He specified the weight of gold for all the gold utensils for each kind of service, and the weight of silver for all the silver utensils for each kind of service;
the weight of gold for the gold lampstands and their lamps, each lampstand and its lamps, and the weight of silver for each silver lampstand and its lamps, according to the use of each lampstand;
the weight of gold for each table for the bread set out in rows, and silver for the silver tables;
pure gold for the forks, bowls, and pitchers; the weight of gold for each gold basin, and the weight of silver for each silver basin;
and the weight of refined gold for the altar of incense, along with the design of the chariot—the gold cherubim that spread their wings and cover the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
“All this was in writing from the hand of the LORD upon me; he made me understand all the work of the plan.”
David said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do it. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the house of the LORD is finished.
Here are the divisions of the priests and Levites for all the service of the house of God. Every willing man skilled in any service will be with you in all the work, and the leaders and all the people will be at your command.”
