2 Chronicles.
Chapter 31.
When all this was finished, all the Israelites who were present went out to the cities of Judah. They shattered the sacred pillars, cut down the Asherah poles, and demolished the high places and altars throughout Judah and Benjamin and in Ephraim and Manasseh, until they had destroyed them all. Then all the Israelites returned to their cities, each to his own property.
Hezekiah appointed the divisions of the priests and the Levites, each according to his service in his division. Priests and Levites were assigned to burnt offerings and peace offerings, to minister, give thanks, and offer praise at the gates of the LORD's camps.
The king contributed from his own possessions for the burnt offerings: the morning and evening burnt offerings and those for the Sabbaths, the new moons, and the appointed festivals, as written in the law of the LORD.
He commanded the people living in Jerusalem to give the portion due to the priests and the Levites, so that they could devote themselves to the law of the LORD.
As soon as the command spread, the Israelites brought abundant firstfruits of grain, new wine, oil, honey, and all the produce of the fields. They also brought a tithe of everything in abundance.
The people of Israel and Judah living in the cities of Judah also brought a tithe of their cattle, sheep, and goats, and a tithe of the holy things consecrated to the LORD their God. They laid them in heap after heap.
They began laying out the heaps in the third month and finished in the seventh month.
When Hezekiah and the officials came and saw the heaps, they blessed the LORD and his people Israel.
Hezekiah questioned the priests and the Levites about the heaps.
Azariah the chief priest, of the house of Zadok, answered him, “Since the contributions began coming to the house of the LORD, we have eaten our fill and had plenty left over. The LORD has blessed his people, and this great abundance is what remains.”
Hezekiah ordered storerooms to be prepared in the house of the LORD, and they prepared them.
They faithfully brought in the contributions, the tithes, and the consecrated things. Cononiah the Levite was in charge of them, and his brother Shimei was second in command.
Jehiel, Azaziah, Nahath, Asahel, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Eliel, Ismachiah, Mahath, and Benaiah were overseers under Cononiah and his brother Shimei, by appointment of King Hezekiah and Azariah, the official in charge of the house of God.
Kore son of Imnah, the Levite gatekeeper on the east side, was in charge of the freewill offerings to God, distributing the contributions for the LORD and the most holy things.
Under him were Eden, Miniamin, Jeshua, Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah. In the cities of the priests, they faithfully distributed portions to their brothers according to their divisions, to great and small alike.
This was apart from the males recorded by genealogy, three years old and upward, all who entered the house of the LORD for their daily duties, serving in their assignments according to their divisions.
The priests were registered by their ancestral houses, and the Levites twenty years old and upward by their responsibilities and divisions.
The registration included all their little ones, their wives, their sons, and their daughters—the whole assembly—for they were faithful in keeping themselves holy.
For the sons of Aaron, the priests living in the pasturelands of their cities, there were men designated by name in each city to distribute portions to every male among the priests and to everyone recorded by genealogy among the Levites.
This is what Hezekiah did throughout Judah. He did what was good, right, and faithful before the LORD his God.
In every work he undertook in the service of the house of God and in the law and the commandments, seeking his God, he acted with all his heart and prospered.
