Psalm.
Chapter 56.
For the music director; according to Jonath Elem Rehokim. A miktam of David, when the Philistines seized him in Gath. Be gracious to me, God, for a mortal tramples me; all day he fights and oppresses me.
Those who watch for my downfall trample me all day, for many fight against me in pride.
When I am afraid, I will trust in you.
In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me?
All day they twist my words; all their thoughts against me are for evil.
They gather and hide; they watch my steps, waiting to take my life.
Will they escape despite their evil? In your anger bring down the peoples, God.
You have counted my wanderings; put my tears in your wineskin. Are they not in your record?
Then my enemies will turn back on the day I call. This I know: God is for me.
In God I praise his word; in the LORD I praise his word.
In God I trust; I will not fear. What can man do to me?
My vows to you are upon me, God; I will bring you thank offerings.
For you have delivered my soul from death. Have you not also kept my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?
