Proverbs.
Chapter 22.
A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor rather than silver and gold.
The rich and the poor meet together; the LORD is the Maker of them all.
A prudent person sees danger and hides, but the simple pass on and suffer the penalty.
The reward of humility and the fear of the LORD is riches, honor, and life.
Thorns and snares are in the way of the crooked; whoever guards his life keeps far from them.
Train a child in his way; even when he is old, he will not turn from it.
A rich man rules over the poor, and the borrower is a servant to the lender.
Whoever sows injustice will reap trouble, and the rod of his fury will come to an end.
A generous person will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor.
Drive out a scoffer, and strife will go out; quarreling and disgrace will cease.
Whoever loves purity of heart and has gracious speech will have the king as his friend.
The eyes of the LORD guard knowledge, but he overturns the words of the treacherous.
The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the squares!”
The mouth of adulterous women is a deep pit; the one under the LORD’s anger will fall into it.
Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him.
Whoever oppresses the poor to increase his wealth, and whoever gives to the rich, comes only to want.
Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise; apply your heart to my knowledge.
For it is pleasant if you keep them within you, if they are all ready on your lips.
So that your trust may be in the LORD, I have made them known to you today, to you yourself.
Have I not written to you before with counsel and knowledge,
to teach you the certainty of truthful words, so that you may give truthful answers to those who sent you?
Do not rob the poor because he is poor, or crush the afflicted at the gate,
for the LORD will plead their cause and rob of life those who rob them.
Do not make friends with an angry man or go with a man of wrath,
lest you learn his ways and take a snare for your own life.
Do not be among those who pledge their hands, those who put up security for debts.
If you have nothing to pay, why should he take your bed from under you?
Do not move the ancient boundary marker that your fathers set.
Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.
