Isaiah.
Chapter 15.
The oracle concerning Moab. Surely, in a night Ar of Moab has been devastated, silenced; surely, in a night Kir of Moab has been devastated, silenced.
He has gone up to the temple and to Dibon, to the high places, to weep. Moab wails over Nebo and Medeba; every head is bald, every beard cut off.
In its streets they put on sackcloth; on its rooftops and in its squares everyone wails, melting into tears.
Heshbon and Elealeh cry out; their voice is heard as far as Jahaz. Therefore Moab’s armed men shout; his soul trembles within him.
My heart cries out for Moab; her fugitives reach Zoar and Eglath-shelishiyah. They go up the ascent of Luhith weeping; on the road to Horonaim they raise a cry of destruction.
For the waters of Nimrim become desolate; the grass has withered, the tender growth has vanished, and nothing green remains.
Therefore the wealth they have acquired and what they have stored up they carry across the Brook of the Willows.
For the cry has gone around Moab’s border; her wailing reaches Eglaim, her wailing reaches Beer-elim.
For the waters of Dimon are full of blood. “I will bring still more upon Dimon: a lion against the fugitives of Moab and against those left in the land.”
