Isaiah.
Chapter 34.
Come near, nations, to hear; pay attention, peoples. Let the earth and all that fills it hear, the world and all that springs from it.
For the LORD is indignant against all the nations and furious against all their armies. He has devoted them to destruction and given them over to slaughter.
Their slain will be thrown out, and the stench of their corpses will rise; the mountains will melt with their blood.
All the host of heaven will waste away; the heavens will be rolled up like a scroll, and all their host will fall like a withered leaf from a vine and a fading leaf from a fig tree.
“For my sword has drunk its fill in heaven. Look, it will descend upon Edom, upon the people I have devoted to destruction, for judgment.”
The sword of the LORD is full of blood, covered with fat, with the blood of lambs and goats and the fat of rams’ kidneys. For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah and a great slaughter in the land of Edom.
Wild oxen will fall with them, young bulls with mighty bulls. Their land will drink its fill of blood, and their dust will be enriched with fat.
For the LORD has a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for Zion’s cause.
Her streams will turn to pitch and her dust to sulfur; her land will become burning pitch.
It will not be quenched night or day; its smoke will rise forever. From generation to generation it will lie desolate; no one will pass through it forever and ever.
The pelican and the porcupine will possess it; the great owl and the raven will dwell there. He will stretch over it the measuring line of chaos and the plumb stones of emptiness.
As for her nobles, there will be no one there to proclaim king, and all her officials will come to nothing.
Thorns will grow in her palaces, nettles and briers in her fortresses. She will become a haunt of jackals, a dwelling for ostriches.
Desert beasts will meet with howling beasts, and the goat demon will call to its fellow. There too the night creature will settle and find a resting place for herself.
There the owl will nest and lay eggs, hatch them and gather her young under her shade. There too the kites will gather, each with her mate.
Search the book of the LORD and read: not one of these will be missing, and none will lack her mate. For my mouth has commanded it, and his Spirit has gathered them.
He has cast the lot for them, and his hand has apportioned it to them with the measuring line. They will possess it forever; from generation to generation they will dwell in it.
