Ezekiel.
Chapter 5.
“And you, son of man, take a sharp sword and use it as a barber’s razor. Pass it over your head and beard. Then take weighing scales and divide the hair.
Burn a third in the fire in the midst of the city when the days of the siege are complete. Take a third and strike it with the sword all around the city. Scatter a third to the wind, and I will draw a sword after them.
Take a few hairs from there and bind them in the folds of your garment.
Take some of these again, throw them into the fire, and burn them. From it a fire will go out to the whole house of Israel.
Thus says the Lord GOD: This is Jerusalem. I set her in the midst of the nations, with countries all around her.
But she rebelled against my ordinances more wickedly than the nations, and against my statutes more than the countries around her. They rejected my ordinances and did not walk in my statutes.
Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have been more unruly than the nations around you, have not walked in my statutes or carried out my ordinances, and have not even acted according to the ordinances of the nations around you,
therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Look, I, even I, am against you. I will execute judgments in your midst in the sight of the nations.
Because of all your abominations, I will do among you what I have never done and will never do the like of again.
Therefore fathers will eat their sons in your midst, and sons will eat their fathers. I will execute judgments among you and scatter all your remnant to every wind.
Therefore, as I live, declares the Lord GOD, because you have defiled my sanctuary with all your detestable things and all your abominations, I too will diminish you. My eye will not spare, and I will have no pity.
A third of you will die of pestilence and be consumed by famine in your midst. A third will fall by the sword all around you, and a third I will scatter to every wind, drawing a sword after them.
My anger will be spent. I will bring my wrath to rest upon them and be satisfied. When I have spent my wrath upon them, they will know that I, the LORD, have spoken in my zeal.
I will make you a ruin and a reproach among the nations around you, in the sight of everyone who passes by.
It will be a reproach and a taunt, a warning and a horror to the nations around you, when I execute judgments among you in anger and wrath and with furious rebukes. I, the LORD, have spoken.
When I send against them the deadly arrows of famine that bring destruction, which I send to destroy you, I will increase the famine upon you and break your staff of bread.
I will send against you famine and wild beasts, and they will bereave you. Pestilence and bloodshed will pass through you, and I will bring the sword against you. I, the LORD, have spoken.”
