Ezekiel.
Chapter 28.
The word of the LORD came to me:
“Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says: Because your heart has grown proud and you have said, “I am a god; I sit in the seat of gods, in the heart of the seas,” though you are a man and not a god, you have made your heart like the heart of a god.
Look, you are wiser than Daniel! No secret is hidden from you.
By your wisdom and understanding you have acquired wealth for yourself and accumulated gold and silver in your treasuries.
By your great wisdom in trade you have multiplied your wealth, and your heart has grown proud because of your wealth.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Because you have made your heart like the heart of a god,
I will bring foreigners against you, the most ruthless of the nations. They will draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom and profane your splendor.
They will bring you down to the pit, and you will die the deaths of the slain in the heart of the seas.
Will you still say, “I am a god,” before the one who kills you? You are a man and not a god in the hands of those who pierce you.
You will die the deaths of the uncircumcised at the hands of foreigners, for I have spoken, declares the Lord GOD.’”
The word of the LORD came to me:
“Son of man, take up a lament over the king of Tyre and say to him, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says: You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
You were in Eden, the garden of God. Every precious stone was your covering: carnelian, topaz, and diamond; beryl, onyx, and jasper; sapphire, emerald, and carbuncle, and gold. The workmanship of your tambourines and pipes was within you; they were prepared on the day you were created.
You were an anointed guardian cherub, and I appointed you. You were on the holy mountain of God; you walked among stones of fire.
You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created until injustice was found in you.
Through your abundant trade they filled your midst with violence, and you sinned. So I banished you as profane from the mountain of God and destroyed you, guardian cherub, from among the stones of fire.
Your heart grew proud because of your beauty. You corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. I cast you to the ground and set you before kings for them to look at you.
By your many iniquities and the injustice of your trade, you profaned your sanctuaries. I brought fire out from within you, and it consumed you. I reduced you to ashes on the ground in the sight of all who saw you.
All who know you among the peoples are appalled at you. You have become a terror, and you are gone forever.’”
The word of the LORD came to me:
“Son of man, set your face against Sidon and prophesy against her.
Say, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says: I am against you, Sidon, and I will be glorified within you. They will know that I am the LORD when I execute judgments within her and show my holiness in her.
I will send pestilence upon her and blood into her streets. The wounded will be judged within her by the sword against her from every side. Then they will know that I am the LORD.
There will no longer be a tearing brier or a painful thorn for the house of Israel from any of those around them who despise them. Then they will know that I am the Lord GOD.
This is what the Lord GOD says: When I gather the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they have been scattered and show my holiness in them in the sight of the nations, they will live in their own land, which I gave to my servant Jacob.
They will live securely in it, build houses, and plant vineyards. They will live securely when I execute judgments against all those around them who despise them. Then they will know that I am the LORD their God.’”
