Ezekiel.
Chapter 32.
In the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the LORD came to me:
“Son of man, take up a lament over Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him, ‘You have been likened to a young lion among the nations, but you are like a monster in the seas. You burst out in your rivers, muddied the waters with your feet, and fouled their rivers.
This is what the Lord GOD says: I will spread my net over you with an assembly of many peoples, and they will haul you up in my net.
I will abandon you on the land and throw you into the open field. I will make all the birds of the heavens settle on you and satisfy the beasts of the whole earth with you.
I will lay your flesh on the mountains and fill the valleys with your bulk.
I will water the land where you swim with your blood, as far as the mountains, and the ravines will be filled with you.
When you are extinguished, I will cover the heavens and darken their stars. I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not give its light.
I will darken all the shining lights of the heavens over you and put darkness upon your land, declares the Lord GOD.
I will trouble the hearts of many peoples when I bring your ruin among the nations, into lands you have not known.
I will make many peoples appalled at you, and their kings will shudder with terror because of you when I brandish my sword before them. They will tremble at every moment, each for his own life, on the day of your fall.
For this is what the Lord GOD says: The sword of the king of Babylon will come against you.
By the swords of warriors—all of them the most ruthless of the nations—I will bring down your multitude. They will devastate the pride of Egypt, and all its multitude will be destroyed.
I will destroy all its livestock beside the abundant waters. No human foot will muddy them again, nor will the hooves of livestock muddy them.
Then I will make their waters settle and make their rivers flow like oil, declares the Lord GOD.
When I make the land of Egypt a desolation, and the land is stripped of all that filled it, when I strike all who live in it, they will know that I am the LORD.
This is a lament, and they will chant it. The daughters of the nations will chant it; they will chant it over Egypt and all its multitude, declares the Lord GOD.’”
In the twelfth year, on the fifteenth day of the month, the word of the LORD came to me:
“Son of man, wail over the multitude of Egypt and bring it down, Egypt and the daughters of mighty nations, to the depths of the earth, with those who descend to the pit.
‘Whom do you surpass in beauty? Go down and lie with the uncircumcised!’
They will fall among those slain by the sword. The sword has been given. Drag her away, her and all her multitudes!
The strongest warriors will speak to him from within Sheol, with his helpers: ‘They have come down and lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword.’
Assyria is there with all its company, its graves all around it, all of them slain, fallen by the sword.
Its graves were placed in the depths of the pit, and its company is around its grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, those who spread terror in the land of the living.
Elam is there with all its multitude around its grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who went down uncircumcised to the depths of the earth. They spread their terror in the land of the living and bear their disgrace with those who descend to the pit.
They have made a bed for it among the slain, with all its multitude, its graves all around it. All of them are uncircumcised, slain by the sword. Because they spread their terror in the land of the living, they bear their disgrace with those who descend to the pit. It has been placed among the slain.
Meshech and Tubal are there with all their multitude, their graves all around them. All of them are uncircumcised, pierced by the sword, because they spread their terror in the land of the living.
They will not lie with the fallen warriors from among the uncircumcised who went down to Sheol with their weapons of war and placed their swords beneath their heads. Their iniquities will be upon their bones, for the terror of the warriors was in the land of the living.
You too will be broken among the uncircumcised and lie with those slain by the sword.
Edom is there, its kings and all its princes, who with all their might have been placed with those slain by the sword. They will lie with the uncircumcised and with those who descend to the pit.
All the princes of the north and all the Sidonians are there. They went down with the slain, ashamed despite the terror of their might. They lie uncircumcised with those slain by the sword and bear their disgrace with those who descend to the pit.
Pharaoh will see them and be comforted concerning all his multitude—Pharaoh and all his army, slain by the sword, declares the Lord GOD.
For I have spread my terror in the land of the living, and he will be laid among the uncircumcised, with those slain by the sword, Pharaoh and all his multitude, declares the Lord GOD.”
