Ezekiel.
Chapter 43.
Then he led me to the gateway, the gateway facing east.
And there was the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east. His voice was like the sound of many waters, and the earth shone with his glory.
The appearance of the vision I saw was like the vision I had seen when I came to destroy the city. The visions were like the vision I had seen by the Chebar River, and I fell on my face.
The glory of the LORD entered the temple through the gateway facing east.
The Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.
I heard someone speaking to me from the temple while a man stood beside me.
He said to me, “Son of man, this is the place of my throne and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell among the people of Israel forever. The house of Israel will no longer defile my holy name, neither they nor their kings, by their prostitution or by the corpses of their kings at their high places.
By setting their threshold beside my threshold and their doorpost beside my doorpost, with a wall between me and them, they defiled my holy name by the abominations they committed. So I consumed them in my anger.
Now let them put their prostitution and the corpses of their kings far from me, and I will dwell among them forever.
As for you, son of man, describe the temple to the house of Israel, so that they may be ashamed of their iniquities and measure its design.
If they are ashamed of all they have done, make known to them the form of the temple, its arrangement, its exits and entrances, all its forms, all its statutes, all its forms, and all its laws. Write it before their eyes so that they may observe its entire form and all its statutes and carry them out.
This is the law of the temple: the whole territory all around it on the mountaintop shall be most holy. Look, this is the law of the temple.
These are the measurements of the altar in cubits, each cubit being a cubit plus a handbreadth. The gutter shall be about twenty-one inches deep and twenty-one inches wide, with a rim of about nine inches along its edge all around. This is the base of the altar.
From the gutter at ground level to the lower ledge shall be about three and a half feet, with a width of about twenty-one inches. From the smaller ledge to the larger ledge shall be about seven feet, with a width of about twenty-one inches.
The altar hearth shall be about seven feet high, and four horns shall rise upward from the hearth.
The altar hearth shall be about twenty-one feet long and twenty-one feet wide, square on its four sides.
The ledge shall be about twenty-four and a half feet long and twenty-four and a half feet wide on its four sides. The rim around it shall be about ten and a half inches, and its gutter about twenty-one inches all around. Its steps shall face east.”
He said to me, “Son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says: These are the statutes for the altar when it is built, for offering burnt offerings on it and sprinkling blood on it.
You shall give a young bull from the herd as a sin offering to the Levitical priests descended from Zadok, who draw near to me to minister to me, declares the Lord GOD.
You shall take some of its blood and put it on the altar's four horns, on the four corners of the ledge, and on the rim all around. Thus you shall cleanse it and make atonement for it.
You shall take the bull of the sin offering, and it shall be burned in the appointed place of the temple, outside the sanctuary.
On the second day you shall offer a male goat without blemish as a sin offering, and they shall cleanse the altar as they cleansed it with the bull.
When you have finished cleansing it, you shall offer a young bull from the herd without blemish and a ram from the flock without blemish.
You shall present them before the LORD, and the priests shall throw salt on them and offer them as a burnt offering to the LORD.
For seven days you shall prepare a male goat each day as a sin offering. They shall also prepare a young bull from the herd and a ram from the flock, both without blemish.
For seven days they shall make atonement for the altar and purify it; thus they shall consecrate it.
When these days are complete, from the eighth day onward the priests shall offer your burnt offerings and your peace offerings on the altar, and I will accept you, declares the Lord GOD.”
