Amos.
Chapter 1.
The words of Amos, who was among the shepherds of Tekoa—what he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah and Jeroboam son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.
He said, “The LORD roars from Zion and raises his voice from Jerusalem. The shepherds’ pastures mourn, and the summit of Carmel withers.”
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, because they threshed Gilead with iron threshing sledges.
I will send fire on the house of Hazael, and it will consume the palaces of Ben-hadad.
I will break the gate bar of Damascus and cut off the inhabitant from the Valley of Aven and the one who holds the scepter from Beth-eden. The people of Aram will go into exile to Kir,” says the LORD.
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, because they carried an entire population into exile to hand them over to Edom.
I will send fire on the wall of Gaza, and it will consume her palaces.
I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod and the one who holds the scepter from Ashkelon. I will turn my hand against Ekron, and the remnant of the Philistines will perish,” says the Lord GOD.
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, because they handed an entire captive population over to Edom and did not remember the covenant of brothers.
I will send fire on the wall of Tyre, and it will consume her palaces.”
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, because he pursued his brother with the sword and stifled his compassion. His anger tore continually, and he kept his wrath forever.
I will send fire on Teman, and it will consume the palaces of Bozrah.”
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of the Ammonites, and for four, I will not revoke their punishment, because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead to enlarge their territory.
I will kindle fire on the wall of Rabbah, and it will consume her palaces, with a battle cry on the day of war, with a tempest on the day of the storm.
Their king will go into exile, he and his princes together,” says the LORD.
