1 These were the divisions of the gatekeepers. From the Korahites: Meshelemiah son of Kore, from the descendants of Asaph. 2 Meshelemiah’s sons: Zechariah the firstborn, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth, 3 Elam the fifth, Jehohanan the sixth, and Eliehoenai the seventh. 4 Obed-edom’s sons: Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sacar the fourth, Nethanel the fifth, 5 Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, and Peullethai the eighth, for God had blessed him.
6 His son Shemaiah also had sons who were leaders in their ancestral house, for they were capable men. 7 The sons of Shemaiah: Othni, Rephael, Obed, and Elzabad; his relatives Elihu and Semachiah were capable men. 8 All these were descendants of Obed-edom. They, their sons, and their relatives were capable men with strength for the service, sixty-two from Obed-edom. 9 Meshelemiah had sons and relatives who were capable men, eighteen in all.
10 Hosah, from the descendants of Merari, had sons: Shimri the chief, though he was not the firstborn, for his father had made him chief; 11 Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, and Zechariah the fourth. All Hosah’s sons and relatives numbered thirteen. 12 These divisions of gatekeepers, with their leading men, had duties alongside their relatives in the service of the house of the LORD. 13 They cast lots for each gate according to their ancestral houses, small and great alike.
14 The lot for the east fell to Shelemiah. They cast lots for his son Zechariah, a wise counselor, and his lot fell to the north.
15 The south fell to Obed-edom, and the storehouse to his sons. 16 The west fell to Shuppim and Hosah, with the Shallecheth Gate on the road that goes up, watch alongside watch. 17 On the east were six Levites; on the north, four each day; on the south, four each day; and at the storehouses, two by two. 18 At the Parbar on the west, four were on the road and two at the Parbar. 19 These were the divisions of the gatekeepers from the Korahites and the descendants of Merari. 20 From the Levites, Ahijah was over the treasuries of the house of God and the treasuries of the dedicated things. 21 The descendants of Ladan, the Gershonite descendants of Ladan, had Jehieli as head of the ancestral houses of Ladan the Gershonite. 22 The sons of Jehieli, Zetham and his brother Joel, were over the treasuries of the house of the LORD. 23 From the Amramites, Izharites, Hebronites, and Uzzielites: 24 Shebuel son of Gershom, son of Moses, was chief officer over the treasuries. 25 His relatives through Eliezer were Rehabiah his son, Jeshaiah his son, Joram his son, Zichri his son, and Shelomith his son. 26 This Shelomoth and his relatives were over all the treasuries of the things dedicated by King David, the heads of ancestral houses, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and the army commanders. 27 They had dedicated some of the spoils from wars to maintain the house of the LORD. 28 Everything dedicated by Samuel the seer, Saul son of Kish, Abner son of Ner, Joab son of Zeruiah, and anyone else who dedicated anything was under the care of Shelomith and his relatives.
29 From the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons were assigned to outside duties over Israel as officials and judges. 30 From the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his relatives, 1,700 capable men, were responsible for Israel west of the Jordan in all the work of the LORD and the king’s service. 31 From the Hebronites, Jeriah was the chief according to their ancestral genealogies. In the fortieth year of David’s reign they were searched out, and capable men were found among them at Jazer in Gilead. 32 His relatives, capable men and heads of ancestral houses, numbered 2,700. King David appointed them over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in every matter concerning God and the king.
