29
1 King David said to the whole assembly, “My son Solomon, the one God has chosen, is young and inexperienced, and the work is great, for the palace is for the LORD God, not for a man. 2 With all my strength I have prepared for the house of my God gold for the gold work, silver for the silver work, bronze for the bronze work, iron for the iron work, and wood for the woodwork, along with onyx stones and stones for settings, dark stones and stones of varied colors, every kind of precious stone, and marble in abundance. 3 Moreover, in my devotion to the house of my God, I give my own treasure of gold and silver for the house of my God, beyond all I have prepared for the holy house: 4 about 112 tons of gold from Ophir and 262 tons of refined silver to overlay the walls of the buildings, 5 gold for the gold work, silver for the silver work, and for all the work done by the craftsmen. Who is willing to consecrate himself to the LORD today?” 6 Then the heads of ancestral houses, the leaders of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and the officials over the king’s work gave willingly. 7 They gave for the service of the house of God about 188 tons of gold, 10,000 gold coins, 375 tons of silver, 675 tons of bronze, and 3,750 tons of iron. 8 Those who had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the LORD, under the care of Jehiel the Gershonite. 9 The people rejoiced at their willing gifts, for they gave willingly to the LORD with an undivided heart. King David also rejoiced greatly.
10 David blessed the LORD before the whole assembly and said, “Blessed are you, LORD, God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. 11 Yours, LORD, are the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty, for everything in heaven and on earth is yours. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom, and you are exalted as head over all. 12 Wealth and honor come from you, and you rule over all. Power and might are in your hand; in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. 13 Now, our God, we give you thanks and praise your glorious name. 14 But who am I, and who are my people, that we should have the strength to give so willingly? Everything comes from you, and we have given you what comes from your own hand. 15 For we are strangers and sojourners before you, like all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow, with no hope of permanence. 16 LORD our God, all this abundance that we have prepared to build you a house for your holy name comes from your hand, and all of it is yours. 17 I know, my God, that you test the heart and delight in uprightness. In the uprightness of my heart I have willingly given all these things, and now I have seen with joy your people here giving willingly to you. 18 LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our ancestors, keep this forever in the intentions and thoughts of your people’s hearts, and direct their hearts toward you. 19 Give my son Solomon an undivided heart to keep your commandments, testimonies, and statutes, to carry them all out and to build the palace for which I have made preparations.”
20 Then David said to the whole assembly, “Now bless the LORD your God.” The whole assembly blessed the LORD, the God of their ancestors, and bowed low and prostrated themselves before the LORD and the king. 21 The next day they offered sacrifices to the LORD and burnt offerings to the LORD: 1,000 bulls, 1,000 rams, and 1,000 lambs, with their drink offerings, and abundant sacrifices for all Israel. 22 They ate and drank before the LORD that day with great joy. They made Solomon son of David king a second time, anointing him for the LORD as ruler and Zadok as priest. 23 Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king in place of David his father. He prospered, and all Israel obeyed him. 24 All the leaders, the mighty warriors, and all King David’s sons pledged their submission to King Solomon. 25 The LORD greatly exalted Solomon in the sight of all Israel and bestowed on him royal majesty such as no king over Israel had before him.
26 David son of Jesse reigned over all Israel. 27 He reigned over Israel forty years: seven years in Hebron and thirty-three years in Jerusalem. 28 He died at a good old age, full of years, wealth, and honor. His son Solomon reigned in his place. 29 The acts of King David, from first to last, are written in the records of Samuel the seer, the records of Nathan the prophet, and the records of Gad the seer, 30 with all his reign and his might, and the events that came upon him, upon Israel, and upon all the kingdoms of the lands.
