14
1 You are children of the LORD your God. You shall not cut yourselves or make a bald patch between your eyes for the dead. 2 For you are a holy people to the LORD your God, and the LORD has chosen you to be his treasured possession from all the peoples on the face of the earth.
3 You shall not eat any abominable thing. 4 These are the animals you may eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat; 5 the deer, the gazelle, the roe deer, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope, and the wild sheep. 6 You may eat any animal that divides the hoof, has the hoof split in two, and brings up the cud. 7 But among those that bring up the cud or divide the split hoof, you shall not eat these: the camel, the hare, and the hyrax, for they bring up the cud but do not divide the hoof; they are unclean to you. 8 And the pig, because it divides the hoof but does not chew the cud, is unclean to you. You shall not eat their flesh or touch their carcasses.
9 Of all that is in the water, you may eat these: anything that has fins and scales you may eat. 10 But anything that does not have fins and scales you shall not eat; it is unclean to you.
11 You may eat any clean bird. 12 But these you shall not eat: the eagle, the bearded vulture, and the vulture; 13 the bird of prey, the falcon, and the kite of every kind; 14 every raven of every kind; 15 the ostrich, the owl, the gull, and the hawk of every kind; 16 the little owl, the great owl, and the white owl; 17 the pelican, the carrion vulture, and the cormorant; 18 the stork, the heron of every kind, the hoopoe, and the bat. 19 Every winged swarming creature is unclean to you; they shall not be eaten. 20 You may eat any clean flying creature. 21 You shall not eat any animal that dies of itself. You may give it to the resident foreigner within your gates, and he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner, for you are a holy people to the LORD your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.
22 You shall surely tithe all the yield of your seed that the field produces year by year. 23 Before the LORD your God, at the place he will choose to make his name dwell there, you shall eat the tithe of your grain, your new wine, and your oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks, so that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always. 24 If the journey is too long for you to carry it, because the place the LORD your God will choose to put his name there is far from you, when the LORD your God blesses you, 25 then exchange it for money, bind up the money in your hand, and go to the place the LORD your God will choose. 26 Spend the money on whatever your soul desires: cattle, sheep or goats, wine, strong drink, or whatever your soul asks of you. Eat there before the LORD your God and rejoice, you and your household. 27 You shall not forsake the Levite within your gates, for he has no portion or inheritance with you.
28 At the end of every three years, bring out all the tithe of your produce for that year and store it within your gates. 29 The Levite, who has no portion or inheritance with you, the resident foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow within your gates shall come and eat and be satisfied, so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hand that you do.
