1 The word of the LORD came to me: 2 “Son of man, there were two women, daughters of one mother. 3 They prostituted themselves in Egypt; they prostituted themselves in their youth. There their breasts were squeezed, and there their virgin breasts were handled. 4 Their names were Oholah, the older, and Oholibah, her sister. They became mine and bore sons and daughters. As for their names, Oholah is Samaria, and Oholibah is Jerusalem. 5 Oholah prostituted herself while she was mine. She lusted after her lovers, the Assyrians nearby, 6 clothed in blue, governors and officials, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding horses. 7 She gave herself to prostitution with them, all the choice men of Assyria. With all those she lusted after, with all their idols, she defiled herself. 8 She did not abandon her prostitution from Egypt, for they had lain with her in her youth, handled her virgin breasts, and poured their prostitution upon her. 9 Therefore I gave her into the hands of her lovers, into the hands of the Assyrians she lusted after. 10 They exposed her nakedness, took away her sons and daughters, and killed her with the sword. She became notorious among women, and they executed judgments against her.

11 Her sister Oholibah saw this, yet her lust became more corrupt than hers, and her prostitution exceeded her sister’s prostitution. 12 She lusted after the Assyrians nearby, governors and officials splendidly clothed, horsemen riding horses, all of them desirable young men. 13 I saw that she had defiled herself; both followed the same way. 14 But she added to her prostitution. She saw men depicted on a wall, images of Chaldeans portrayed in vermilion, 15 with belts around their waists and flowing turbans on their heads, all with the appearance of officers, like the Babylonians whose native land was Chaldea. 16 As soon as she saw them, she lusted after them and sent messengers to them in Chaldea. 17 The Babylonians came to her bed of love and defiled her with their prostitution. She was defiled by them, and then her soul turned from them in disgust. 18 She exposed her prostitution and uncovered her nakedness. Then my soul turned from her in disgust, just as my soul had turned from her sister. 19 But she multiplied her prostitution, remembering the days of her youth when she prostituted herself in the land of Egypt. 20 She lusted after their lovers, whose members were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses. 21 So you recalled the lewdness of your youth, when the Egyptians handled your breasts, the breasts of your youth.

22 Therefore, Oholibah, this is what the Lord GOD says: I will stir up against you your lovers from whom your soul turned in disgust, and I will bring them against you from all around: 23 the Babylonians and all the Chaldeans, Pekod, Shoa, and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them, desirable young men, all of them governors and officials, officers and men of renown, all riding horses. 24 They will come against you with weapons, chariots, and wheels, and an assembly of peoples. They will array large shields, small shields, and helmets against you all around. I will entrust judgment to them, and they will judge you according to their judgments. 25 I will direct my jealousy against you, and they will deal with you in wrath. They will cut off your nose and ears, and your survivors will fall by the sword. They will take away your sons and daughters, and what remains of you will be consumed by fire. 26 They will strip you of your clothes and take your beautiful ornaments. 27 I will put an end to your lewdness and your prostitution from the land of Egypt. You will no longer lift your eyes to them or remember Egypt.

28 For this is what the Lord GOD says: I will give you into the hands of those you hate, into the hands of those from whom your soul turned in disgust. 29 They will deal with you in hatred, take all the fruit of your labor, and leave you naked and bare. The nakedness of your prostitution will be exposed, your lewdness and your prostitution. 30 These things will be done to you because you prostituted yourself after the nations and defiled yourself with their idols. 31 You have followed your sister’s way, and I will put her cup into your hand.

32 This is what the Lord GOD says: You will drink your sister’s cup, deep and wide. It will be an object of laughter and mockery; it holds much. 33 You will be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, with a cup of horror and desolation, the cup of your sister Samaria. 34 You will drink it and drain it, gnaw its shards, and tear your breasts, for I have spoken, declares the Lord GOD.

35 Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Because you have forgotten me and cast me behind your back, you too must bear your lewdness and your prostitution.”

36 The LORD said to me, “Son of man, will you judge Oholah and Oholibah? Declare their abominations to them. 37 For they have committed adultery, and blood is on their hands. They have committed adultery with their idols and even offered their sons, whom they bore to me, to those idols to be devoured. 38 They have also done this to me: They defiled my sanctuary on that same day and profaned my Sabbaths. 39 When they slaughtered their sons for their idols, they came into my sanctuary that same day to profane it. This is what they did within my house. 40 They even sent for men to come from far away. A messenger was sent to them, and they came. For them you bathed, painted your eyes, and adorned yourself with jewelry. 41 You sat on a splendid couch with a table prepared before it, on which you set my incense and my oil. 42 The sound of a carefree crowd was in her. Along with men from the multitude, drinkers were brought from the wilderness. They put bracelets on the women’s wrists and beautiful crowns on their heads. 43 Then I said of her who was worn out by adultery, ‘Will they now prostitute themselves with her, and she with them?’ 44 One went in to her as one goes in to a prostitute. So they went in to Oholah and Oholibah, the lewd women. 45 But righteous men will judge them with the judgment of adulteresses and the judgment of women who shed blood, for they are adulteresses, and blood is on their hands.

46 For this is what the Lord GOD says: Bring up an assembly against them and give them over to terror and plunder. 47 The assembly will stone them and cut them down with their swords. They will kill their sons and daughters and burn their houses with fire. 48 I will put an end to lewdness in the land. All women will be warned and will not imitate your lewdness. 49 They will bring your lewdness upon you, and you will bear the sins of your idols. Then you will know that I am the Lord GOD.”
