1 The oracle concerning Moab.
Surely, in a night Ar of Moab has been devastated, silenced;
surely, in a night Kir of Moab has been devastated, silenced.
2 He has gone up to the temple and to Dibon, to the high places, to weep.
Moab wails over Nebo and Medeba;
every head is bald, every beard cut off.
3 In its streets they put on sackcloth;
on its rooftops and in its squares everyone wails, melting into tears.
4 Heshbon and Elealeh cry out;
their voice is heard as far as Jahaz.
Therefore Moab’s armed men shout;
his soul trembles within him.
5 My heart cries out for Moab;
her fugitives reach Zoar and Eglath-shelishiyah.
They go up the ascent of Luhith weeping;
on the road to Horonaim they raise a cry of destruction.
6 For the waters of Nimrim become desolate;
the grass has withered, the tender growth has vanished, and nothing green remains.
7 Therefore the wealth they have acquired and what they have stored up they carry across the Brook of the Willows.
8 For the cry has gone around Moab’s border;
her wailing reaches Eglaim, her wailing reaches Beer-elim.
9 For the waters of Dimon are full of blood.
“I will bring still more upon Dimon: a lion against the fugitives of Moab and against those left in the land.”
