18
1 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered:
2 “How long will you lay snares for words?
Gain understanding, and afterward we will speak.
3 Why are we counted as beasts, regarded as stupid in your eyes?
4 You who tear yourself in your anger, will the earth be abandoned for your sake, or a rock moved from its place?
5 Indeed, the light of the wicked will go out, and the spark of his fire will not shine.
6 The light in his tent will grow dark, and his lamp above him will go out.
7 His vigorous steps will be narrowed, and his own counsel will throw him down.
8 For his own feet cast him into a net, and he walks on a mesh.
9 A trap catches him by the heel;
a snare clamps down on him.
10 His cord is hidden in the ground, and his trap lies on the path.
11 Terrors frighten him on every side and chase him at his heels.
12 His strength is famished, and calamity stands ready at his side.
13 It devours parts of his skin;
the firstborn of death devours his limbs.
14 His confidence is torn from his tent, and he is marched to the king of terrors.
15 What is not his will dwell in his tent;
sulfur will be scattered over his dwelling.
16 Below, his roots will dry up;
above, his branch will wither.
17 His memory will perish from the earth, and he will have no name in the street.
18 They will drive him from light into darkness and chase him out of the world.
19 He will have neither offspring nor descendants among his people, no survivor where he sojourned.
20 Those in the west are appalled at his day, and those in the east are seized with horror.
21 Surely such are the dwellings of the unjust, and this is the place of one who does not know God.”
