37
1 At this too my heart trembles and leaps from its place.
2 Listen closely to the thunder of his voice, the rumbling that comes from his mouth.
3 He lets it loose beneath the whole heaven, and his lightning to the ends of the earth.
4 After it a voice roars;
he thunders with his majestic voice.
He does not hold them back when his voice is heard.
5 God thunders wondrously with his voice;
he does great things beyond our knowledge.
6 For he says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and likewise to the shower of rain, the showers of his mighty rain.
7 He seals the hand of every man, so that all men may know his work.
8 The beast goes into its hiding place and stays in its den.
9 From the chamber comes the storm, and from the scattering winds comes cold.
10 By the breath of God ice is given, and the broad waters are frozen solid.
11 He loads the thick cloud with moisture;
he scatters the cloud of his lightning.
12 It turns round and round under his counsels, to do all that he commands them on the face of the inhabited earth.
13 Whether for the rod, for his land, or for steadfast love, he causes it to come.
14 Listen to this, Job;
stand still and consider the wonders of God.
15 Do you know how God gives them their charge and makes the lightning of his cloud shine?
16 Do you know the balancing of the clouds, the wonders of one complete in knowledge,
17 you whose garments grow hot when the earth lies still under the south wind?
18 Can you hammer out the skies with him, strong as a cast metal mirror?
19 Teach us what to say to him;
we cannot set out our case because of darkness.
20 Should he be told that I would speak?
Would a man ask to be swallowed up?
21 And now men cannot look at the light, bright in the skies, when the wind has passed and cleared them.
22 From the north comes golden splendor;
around God is awesome majesty.
23 The Almighty—we cannot find him out.
He is great in power, in justice and abundant righteousness;
he does not oppress.
24 So men fear him;
he does not regard any who are wise of heart.”
