1 The allotment for the tribe of the descendants of Judah, according to their clans, reached the border of Edom, to the wilderness of Zin in the south, at the farthest southern end. 2 Their southern border began at the end of the Salt Sea, at the bay facing south. 3 It went out south of the ascent of Akrabbim, passed on to Zin, and went up south of Kadesh-barnea. It passed Hezron, went up to Addar, and turned toward Karka. 4 It passed on to Azmon, went out to the Brook of Egypt, and ended at the sea. This will be your southern border. 5 The eastern border was the Salt Sea as far as the mouth of the Jordan. The northern border began at the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan. 6 The border went up to Beth-hoglah and passed north of Beth-arabah. The border went up to the stone of Bohan son of Reuben. 7 The border went up to Debir from the Valley of Achor, then turned north toward Gilgal, opposite the ascent of Adummim south of the brook. The border passed on to the waters of En-shemesh and ended at En-rogel. 8 The border went up through the Valley of the Son of Hinnom to the southern side of the Jebusite city, that is, Jerusalem. The border went up to the top of the hill west of the Valley of Hinnom, at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim. 9 The border curved from the top of the hill to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah and went out to the towns of Mount Ephron. The border curved toward Baalah, that is, Kiriath-jearim. 10 The border turned west from Baalah to Mount Seir, passed along the northern side of Mount Jearim, that is, Chesalon, went down to Beth-shemesh, and passed on to Timnah. 11 The border went out to the northern side of Ekron. The border curved toward Shikkeron, passed Mount Baalah, and went out to Jabneel. The border ended at the sea. 12 The western border was the Great Sea with its coast. This was the border around the descendants of Judah according to their clans. 13 Joshua gave Caleb son of Jephunneh a share among the descendants of Judah, according to the LORD’s command to Joshua: Kiriath-arba, that is, Hebron. Arba was the father of Anak. 14 Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak. 15 From there he went up against the inhabitants of Debir. Debir was formerly called Kiriath-sepher. 16 Caleb said, “To the man who attacks Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will give my daughter Achsah as his wife.” 17 Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb’s brother, captured it, and Caleb gave him his daughter Achsah as his wife. 18 When she arrived, she urged him to ask her father for a field. She dismounted from the donkey, and Caleb said to her, “What do you want?” 19 She said, “Give me a blessing. Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me springs of water too.” So he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.
