40
1 I waited patiently for the LORD;
he inclined toward me and heard my cry for help.
2 He brought me up from the roaring pit, from the miry clay;
he set my feet upon a rock and made my steps firm.
3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear, and trust in the LORD.
4 Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust and does not turn to the arrogant or those who stray after falsehood.
5 Many are the wonders you have done, LORD my God, and your thoughts toward us;
none can compare with you.
I would proclaim and tell them, but they are too many to recount.
6 Sacrifice and offering you have not desired;
you have opened my ears.
Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required.
7 Then I said, “Here I come;
in the book scroll it is written of me.
8 I delight to do your will, my God;
your law is deep within me.”
9 I have proclaimed righteousness in the great assembly;
look, I have not restrained my lips.
LORD, you know.
10 I have not hidden your righteousness within my heart;
I have spoken of your faithfulness and salvation.
I have not concealed your steadfast love and truth from the great assembly.
11 You, LORD, do not withhold your compassion from me;
let your steadfast love and truth always guard me.
12 For evils beyond number surround me;
my iniquities have overtaken me, and I cannot see.
They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart has failed me.
13 Be pleased, LORD, to deliver me;
LORD, hurry to help me.
14 Let those who seek my life to destroy it be put to shame and humiliation together;
let those who desire my harm turn back in disgrace.
15 Let those who say to me, “Aha, aha!”
be appalled because of their shame.
16 Let all who seek you exult and rejoice in you;
let those who love your salvation always say, “May the LORD be magnified!”
17 But I am poor and needy;
may the Lord think of me.
You are my help and my deliverer;
my God, do not delay.
