Prayer - Communication with God

by Rev. Michael Paul Johnson

You don't need the Internet to talk with God. He is as close to you as your mouth and heart. There are times when you may want to join together with other believers in prayer, and that is what local churches, prayer groups, and our prayer mailing list are for.

The Heart of Prayer

Although the 12 Bible-based keys to effective prayer listed above are all very good, they don't tell the whole story. Prayer is intimate, personal contact with our Father in Heaven. It is heart-to-heart conversation with our loving God. Like any personal relationship, your relationship with God grows stronger and sweeter as you spend time talking together, expressing your love and the depths of your hopes, dreams, and concerns. There is much more in the Holy Bible about prayer, and much more that you learn best by spending time in prayer every day.

The Authority of the Believer in Jesus Christ

As a believer in Jesus Christ and a Son or Daughter of God, you have a great deal of authority to continue God's work in this world. With that comes the responsibility to use that authority in the fulfillment of the Great Commission and the Great Commandment. A great deal of our responsibility in this world as members of the Kingdom of God is to pray. We are commanded to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ to everyone in every land, language, race, and tribe and to love one another. The enemy of our souls and accuser still rails against us, but we have authority in the name of Jesus Christ to bind him and limit his actions and to free God and His angels to work in this world. Woe to us and those we should have prayed for if we don't. How great is our reward if we do!
