1 The word of the LORD came to me: 2 “Son of man, set your face toward the mountains of Israel and prophesy against them. 3 Say, ‘Mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD. Thus says the Lord GOD to the mountains and hills, the ravines and valleys: Look, I, even I, am bringing a sword against you, and I will destroy your high places. 4 Your altars will be devastated, and your incense altars will be broken. I will cast down your slain before your idols. 5 I will lay the corpses of the people of Israel before their idols and scatter your bones around your altars. 6 Wherever you dwell, the cities will lie in ruins and the high places be devastated, so that your altars lie in ruins and desolation, your idols are broken and put to an end, your incense altars cut down, and your works wiped away. 7 The slain will fall in your midst, and you will know that I am the LORD. 8 But I will leave some of you who escape the sword among the nations when you are scattered through the countries. 9 Your survivors will remember me among the nations where they have been taken captive—how I was broken by their adulterous heart that turned away from me, and by their eyes that went whoring after their idols. They will loathe themselves for the evil they have done, for all their abominations. 10 They will know that I am the LORD; I did not speak in vain when I said I would bring this disaster upon them.’
11 Thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Clap your hands, stamp your foot, and say, “Alas for all the evil abominations of the house of Israel!” For they will fall by sword, famine, and pestilence. 12 The one far away will die of pestilence; the one nearby will fall by the sword; the one who remains and is besieged will die of famine. So I will spend my wrath upon them. 13 You will know that I am the LORD when their slain lie among their idols, around their altars, on every high hill, on all the mountain peaks, under every leafy tree and every thickly leafed terebinth, wherever they offered a pleasing aroma to all their idols. 14 I will stretch out my hand against them and make the land more desolate and devastated than the wilderness toward Diblath, in all their dwelling places. They will know that I am the LORD.’ ”
