1 The word of the LORD came to me: 2 “And you, son of man, thus says the Lord GOD to the land of Israel: An end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land. 3 Now the end is upon you. I will send my anger against you, judge you according to your ways, and bring all your abominations upon you. 4 My eye will not spare you, nor will I have pity. I will bring your ways upon you, and your abominations will be in your midst. You will know that I am the LORD.
5 Thus says the Lord GOD: A disaster, a single disaster! Look, it is coming! 6 An end has come; the end has come. It has awakened against you. Look, it is coming! 7 Doom has come to you, inhabitant of the land. The time has come; the day is near—tumult, not joyful shouts on the mountains. 8 Now, very soon, I will pour out my wrath upon you and spend my anger against you. I will judge you according to your ways and bring all your abominations upon you. 9 My eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. I will repay you according to your ways, and your abominations will be in your midst. You will know that I am the LORD who strikes. 10 Look, the day! Look, it is coming! Doom has gone forth; the rod has blossomed, and arrogance has budded. 11 Violence has risen into a rod of wickedness. None of them will remain, none of their multitude, none of their abundance, and no splendor among them. 12 The time has come; the day has arrived. Let the buyer not rejoice or the seller mourn, for wrath is upon all her multitude. 13 The seller will not return to what he sold, even while they remain alive, for the vision against all her multitude will not be reversed. No one will preserve his life through his iniquity. 14 They have blown the trumpet and made everything ready, but no one goes to battle, for my wrath is upon all her multitude. 15 The sword is outside, and pestilence and famine are inside. Whoever is in the field will die by the sword, and whoever is in the city, famine and pestilence will devour him. 16 Their survivors will escape and be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all moaning, each for his iniquity. 17 All hands will hang limp, and all knees will run with water. 18 They will put on sackcloth, and terror will cover them. Shame will be on every face, and baldness on every head. 19 They will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will become an unclean thing. Their silver and gold will not deliver them on the day of the LORD’s wrath. They will not satisfy their appetite or fill their bellies, for it has been the stumbling block of their iniquity. 20 He made the beauty of his ornament a source of pride. In it they made the images of their abominations, their detestable things. Therefore I have made it an unclean thing for them. 21 I will give it into the hand of foreigners as plunder and to the wicked of the earth as spoil, and they will profane it. 22 I will turn my face from them, and they will profane my secret place. Violent men will enter it and profane it.
23 Make the chain, for the land is full of crimes of bloodshed and the city full of violence. 24 I will bring the worst of the nations, and they will take possession of their houses. I will put an end to the pride of the strong, and their sanctuaries will be profaned. 25 Anguish is coming. They will seek peace, but there will be none. 26 Disaster will come upon disaster, and report upon report. They will seek a vision from a prophet, but instruction will perish from the priest and counsel from the elders. 27 The king will mourn, the prince will be clothed in desolation, and the hands of the people of the land will tremble. I will deal with them according to their ways and judge them according to their judgments. They will know that I am the LORD.”
