1 LORD, God of vengeance, God of vengeance, shine forth!

2 Rise up, Judge of the earth;

3 How long will the wicked, LORD, how long will the wicked exult?

4 They pour out arrogant words;

5 They crush your people, LORD, and afflict your inheritance.

6 They kill the widow and the foreigner, and murder the fatherless.

7 They say, “The LORD does not see;

8 Understand, you senseless among the people!

9 Does the one who planted the ear not hear?

10 Will the one who disciplines nations not correct, the one who teaches humanity knowledge?

11 The LORD knows human thoughts, that they are but a breath.

12 Blessed is the man you discipline, LORD, whom you teach from your law,

13 to give him rest from days of trouble until a pit is dug for the wicked.

14 For the LORD will not reject his people or forsake his inheritance.

15 For judgment will return to righteousness, and all the upright in heart will follow it.

16 Who will rise up for me against the wicked?

17 If the LORD had not been my help, my soul would soon have dwelt in silence.

18 When I say, “My foot is slipping,” your steadfast love, LORD, sustains me.

19 When anxious thoughts multiply within me, your consolations delight my soul.

20 Can a destructive throne be allied with you, one that fashions harm by statute?

21 They band together against the life of the righteous and condemn innocent blood.

22 But the LORD has become my stronghold, and my God the rock of my refuge.

23 He will bring their own wickedness back on them and destroy them for their evil;
