Lament for the Princes of Israel
“As for you, take up a AEzek 2:10; 19:14lamentation for the B2 Kin 23:29, 30, 34; 24:6, 12; 25:5-7princes of Israel and say,
1Or Why did your mother, a lioness, lie down among lions; among young lions rear her cubs?What was your mother?
A lioness among lions!
She lay down among young lions,
She reared her cubs.
‘When she brought up one of her cubs,
He became a lion,
And he learned to tear his prey;
He devoured men.
‘Then nations heard about him;
He was captured in their pit,
And they A2 Kin 23:34; 2 Chr 36:4, 6brought him with hooks
To the land of Egypt.
‘When she saw, as she waited,
That her hope was lost,
She took 1Lit oneanother of her cubs
And made him a young lion.
‘And he A2 Kin 24:9; 2 Chr 36:9walked about among the lions;
He became a young lion,
He learned to tear his prey;
He devoured men.
‘He 1So Targum; M.T. knewdestroyed their 2Or widowsfortified towers
And laid waste their cities;
And the land and its fullness were appalled
Because of the sound of his roaring.
‘Then A2 Kin 24:11nations set against him
On every side from their provinces,
And they spread their net over him;
He was captured in their pit.
A2 Chr 36:6They put him in a cage with hooks
And B2 Kin 24:15brought him to the king of Babylon;
They brought him in hunting nets
So that his voice would be heard no more
On the mountains of Israel.
10 ‘Your mother was APs 80:8-11like a vine in your 1So with some ancient mss; M.T. bloodvineyard,

And its BEzek 31:3height was raised above the clouds

This is a lamentation, and has become a lamentation.
