David’s Last Song
Now these are the last words of David.
David the son of Jesse declares,
A2 Sam 7:8, 9; Ps 78:70, 71The man who was raised on high declares,
B1 Sam 16:12, 13; Ps 89:20The anointed of the God of Jacob,
And the sweet psalmist of Israel,
AMatt 22:43; 2 Pet 1:21The Spirit of the Loʀᴅ spoke by me,
And His word was on my tongue.
“The God of Israel said,
A2 Sam 22:2, 3, 32The Rock of Israel spoke to me,
BPs 72:1-3; Is 11:1-5He who rules over men righteously,
C2 Chr 19:7, 9Who rules in the fear of God,
AJudg 5:31; Ps 72:6Is as the light of the morning when the sun rises,
A morning without clouds,
When the tender grass springs out of the earth,
Through sunshine after rain.’
“Truly is not my house so with God?
For A2 Sam 7:12-16; Ps 89:29; Is 55:3He has made an everlasting covenant with me,
Ordered in all things, and secured;
For all my salvation and all my desire,
Will He not indeed make it grow?
AMatt 13:41But the worthless, every one of them will be thrust away like thorns,
Because they cannot be taken in hand;
But the man who touches them
Must be 1Lit filledarmed with iron and the shaft of a spear,
And AMatt 3:10; 13:30; Heb 6:8they will be completely burned with fire in their 2Lit sittingplace.”
His Mighty Men
A1 Chr 11:11-47These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: Josheb-basshebeth a Tahchemonite, chief of the 1Or threecaptains, he was called Adino the Eznite, because of eight hundred slain by him at one time; and after him was Eleazar the son of A1 Chr 27:4Dodo the B1 Chr 8:4Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David when they 1Lit reproacheddefied the Philistines who were gathered there to battle and the men of Israel had 2Lit gone upwithdrawn. 10 A1 Chr 11:13He arose and struck the Philistines until his hand was weary and 1Lit his hand clungclung to the sword, and B1 Sam 11:13; 19:5the Loʀᴅ brought about a great 2Lit salvationvictory that day; and the people returned after him only to strip the slain.

Nevertheless he would not drink it, but BGen 35:14poured it out to the Loʀᴅ; 17 and he said, “Be it far from me, O Loʀᴅ, that I should do this. ALev 17:10Shall I drink the blood of the men who went in jeopardy of their lives?” Therefore he would not drink it. These things the three mighty men did.
