1 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying, 2 “AMatt 13:24; 22:2-14; Luke 14:16-24The kingdom of heaven 1Lit was compared tomay be compared to 2Lit a man, a kinga king who 3Lit madegave a BLuke 12:36; John 2:2wedding feast for his son. 3  “And he AMatt 21:34sent out his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding feast, and they were unwilling to come. 4  “Again he AMatt 21:36sent out other slaves saying, ‘Tell those who have been invited, “Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fattened livestock are all butchered and everything is ready; come to the wedding feast.” ’ 5  “But they paid no attention and went their way, one to his own 1Or fieldfarm, another to his business, 6 and the rest seized his slaves and mistreated them and killed them. 7  “But the king was enraged, and he sent his armies and destroyed those murderers and set their city on fire. 8  “Then he *said to his slaves, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. 9  ‘Go therefore to AEzek 21:21; Obad 14the main highways, and as many as you find there, invite to the wedding feast.’ 10  “Those slaves went out into the streets and gathered together all they found, both evil and good; and the wedding hall was filled with 1Lit those reclining at the tabledinner guests.

For they all had married her.”

29 But Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, AJohn 20:9not 1Or knowingunderstanding the Scriptures nor the power of God. 30  “For in the resurrection they neither AMatt 24:38; Luke 17:27marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. 31  “But regarding the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God: 32 ‘AEx 3:6I ᴀᴍ ᴛʜᴇ Goᴅ oꜰ Aʙʀᴀʜᴀᴍ, ᴀɴᴅ ᴛʜᴇ Goᴅ oꜰ Isᴀᴀc, ᴀɴᴅ ᴛʜᴇ Goᴅ oꜰ Jᴀcoʙ’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.” 33 When the crowds heard this, AMatt 7:28they were astonished at His teaching.
