The Triumphal Entry
AMatt 21:1-9: Mark 11:1-10; Luke 19:29-38When they had approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage, at BMatt 24:3; 26:30; Mark 11:1; 13:3; 14:26; Luke 19:29, 37; 21:37; 22:39; John 8:1; Acts 1:12the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me.  “If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.” AMatt 21:4-9: Mark 11:7-10; Luke 19:35-38; John 12:12-15This 1Lit has happenedtook place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
AIs 62:11; Zech 9:9Sᴀʏ ᴛo ᴛʜᴇ ᴅᴀᴜɢʜᴛᴇʀ oꜰ Zɪoɴ,
‘Bᴇʜoʟᴅ ʏoᴜʀ Kɪɴɢ ɪs coᴍɪɴɢ ᴛo ʏoᴜ,

Evᴇɴ oɴ ᴀ coʟᴛ, ᴛʜᴇ ꜰoᴀʟ oꜰ ᴀ ʙᴇᴀsᴛ oꜰ ʙᴜʀᴅᴇɴ.’ ”
The disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them, and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their coats on them; and He sat on 1Lit themthe coats. Most of the crowd A2 Kin 9:13spread their coats in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them in the road. The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting,
“Hosanna to the AMatt 9:27Son of David;
BPs 118:26Bʟᴇssᴇᴅ ɪs Hᴇ wʜo coᴍᴇs ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ɴᴀᴍᴇ oꜰ ᴛʜᴇ Loʀᴅ;
Hosanna CLuke 2:14in the highest!”
10 When He had entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, “Who is this?” 11 And the crowds were saying, “This is AMatt 21:26; Mark 6:15; Luke 7:16, 39; 13:33; 24:19; John 1:21, 25; 4:19; 6:14; 7:40; 9:17; Acts 3:22f; 7:37the prophet Jesus, from BMatt 2:23Nazareth in Galilee.”
Cleansing the Temple
12 AMatt 21:12-16: Mark 11:15-18; Luke 19:45-47;Matt 21:12, 13: John 2:13-16And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the BEx 30:13money changers and the seats of those who were selling CLev 1:14; 5:7; 12:8doves. 13 And He *said to them, “It is written, ‘AIs 56:7Mʏ ʜoᴜsᴇ sʜᴀʟʟ ʙᴇ cᴀʟʟᴇᴅ ᴀ ʜoᴜsᴇ oꜰ ᴘʀᴀʏᴇʀ’; but you are making it a BJer 7:11ʀoʙʙᴇʀs’ 1Lit caveᴅᴇɴ.”
14 And the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and AMatt 4:23He healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that He had done, and the children who were shouting in the temple, “Hosanna to the AMatt 9:27Son of David,” they became indignant 16 and said to Him, “Do You hear what these children are saying?” And Jesus *said to them, “Yes; have you never read, ‘APs 8:2; Matt 11:25Oᴜᴛ oꜰ ᴛʜᴇ ᴍoᴜᴛʜ oꜰ ɪɴꜰᴀɴᴛs ᴀɴᴅ ɴᴜʀsɪɴɢ ʙᴀʙɪᴇs Yoᴜ ʜᴀvᴇ ᴘʀᴇᴘᴀʀᴇᴅ ᴘʀᴀɪsᴇ ꜰoʀ Yoᴜʀsᴇʟꜰ’?” 17 And He left them and went out of the city to AMatt 26:6; Mark 11:1, 11, 12; 14:3; Luke 19:29; 24:50; John 11:1, 18; 12:1Bethany, and spent the night there.
The Barren Fig Tree
18 AMatt 21:18-22: Mark 11:12-14, 20-24Now in the morning, when He was returning to the city, He became hungry. 19 Seeing a lone ALuke 13:6-9fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it except leaves only; and He *said to it, “No longer shall there ever be any fruit from you.” And at once the fig tree withered.
20 Seeing this, the disciples were amazed and asked, “How did the fig tree wither all at once?” 21 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, AMatt 17:20; Mark 11:23; Luke 17:6; James 1:6if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen. 22  “And AMatt 7:7all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”
Authority Challenged
23 AMatt 21:23-27: Mark 11:27-33; Luke 20:1-8When He entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him BMatt 26:55while He was teaching, and said, “By what authority are You doing these things, and who gave You this authority?” 24 Jesus said to them, “I will also ask you one 1Lit wordthing, which if you tell Me, I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. 25  “The baptism of John was from what source, from heaven or from men?” And they began reasoning among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say to us, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’ 26  “But if we say, ‘From men,’ we fear the 1Lit crowdpeople; for they all regard John as AMatt 11:9; Mark 6:20a prophet.” 27 And answering Jesus, they said, “We do not know.” He also said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.
Parable of Two Sons
28 “But what do you think? A man had two 1Lit childrensons, and he came to the first and said, ‘2Lit ChildSon, go work today in the AMatt 20:1; 21:33vineyard.’ 29  “And he answered, ‘I will not’; but afterward he regretted it and went. 30  “The man came to the second and said the same thing; and he answered, ‘I will, sir’; but he did not go. 31  “Which of the two did the will of his father?” They *said, “The first.” Jesus *said to them, “Truly I say to you that ALuke 7:29, 37-50the tax collectors and prostitutes 1Lit are getting intowill get into the kingdom of God before you. 32  “For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him; but ALuke 3:12; 7:29fthe tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; and you, seeing this, did not even feel remorse afterward so as to believe him.
Parable of the Landowner
33 “Listen to another parable. AMatt 21:33-46: Mark 12:1-12; Luke 20:9-19There was a 1Lit a man, head of a householdlandowner who BIs 5:1, 2ᴘʟᴀɴᴛᴇᴅ ᴀ CMatt 20:1; 21:28vɪɴᴇʏᴀʀᴅ ᴀɴᴅ ᴘᴜᴛ ᴀ wᴀʟʟ ᴀʀoᴜɴᴅ ɪᴛ ᴀɴᴅ ᴅᴜɢ ᴀ wɪɴᴇ ᴘʀᴇss ɪɴ ɪᴛ, ᴀɴᴅ ʙᴜɪʟᴛ ᴀ ᴛowᴇʀ, and rented it out to 2Or tenant farmers, also vv 34, 35, 38, 40vine-growers and DMatt 25:14went on a journey. 34  “When the 1Lit the fruit seasonharvest time approached, he AMatt 22:3sent his slaves to the vine-growers to receive his produce. 35  “The vine-growers took his slaves and beat one, and killed another, and stoned a third. 36  “Again he AMatt 22:4sent another group of slaves larger than the first; and they did the same thing to them. 37  “But afterward he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 38  “But when the vine-growers saw the son, they said among themselves, ‘This is the heir; come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.’ 39  “They took him, and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. 40  “Therefore when the 1Lit lordowner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vine-growers?” 41 They *said to Him, “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end, and AMatt 8:11f; Acts 13:46; 18:6; 28:28will rent out the vineyard to other vine-growers who will pay him the proceeds at the proper seasons.”
42 Jesus *said to them, “Did you never read in the Scriptures,
APs 118:22f; Acts 4:11; Rom 9:33; 1 Pet 2:7Tʜᴇ sᴛoɴᴇ wʜɪcʜ ᴛʜᴇ ʙᴜɪʟᴅᴇʀs ʀᴇᴊᴇcᴛᴇᴅ,

Aɴᴅ ɪᴛ ɪs ᴍᴀʀvᴇʟoᴜs ɪɴ oᴜʀ ᴇʏᴇs’?
43  “Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a 1Lit nationpeople, producing the fruit of it. 44  “And AIs 8:14, 15he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will scatter him like dust.”
45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard His parables, they understood that He was speaking about them. 46 When they sought to seize Him, they AMatt 21:26feared the 1Lit crowdspeople, because they considered Him to be a BMatt 21:11prophet.
