Judging Others
AMatt 7:1-5: Luke 6:37f, 41f; Rom 14:10, 13Do not judge so that you will not be judged.  “For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and 1Lit by what measure you measureAMark 4:24; Luke 6:38by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you.  “Why do you ARom 2:1look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?  “ALuke 6:42Or how 1Lit willcan you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and behold, the log is in your own eye?  “You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
AMatt 15:26Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.
Prayer and the Golden Rule
1Or Keep askingAMatt 7:7-11: Luke 11:9-13Ask, and BMatt 18:19; 21:22; Mark 11:24; John 14:13; 15:7, 16; 16:23f; James 1:5f; 1 John 3:22; 5:14fit will be given to you; 2Or keep seekingseek, and you will find; 3Or keep knockingknock, and it will be opened to you.  “For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.  “Or what man is there among you 1Lit whom his son will askwho, when his son asks for a loaf, 2Lit he will not give him a stone, will he?will give him a stone? 10  “Or 1Lit also will askif he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? 11  “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, APs 84:11; Is 63:7; Rom 8:32; James 1:17how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!
12 “In everything, ALuke 6:31therefore, 1Lit you, too, do so for themtreat people the same way you want 2Lit people; Gr anthropoithem to treat you, for BMatt 22:40; Rom 13:8ff; Gal 5:14this is the Law and the Prophets.
The Narrow and Wide Gates
13 ALuke 13:24Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14  “For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
A Tree and Its Fruit
15 “Beware of the AMatt 24:11, 24; Mark 13:22; Luke 6:26; Acts 13:6; 2 Pet 2:1; 1 John 4:1; Rev 16:13; 19:20; 20:10false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are BEzek 22:27; John 10:12; Acts 20:29ravenous wolves. 16  “You will 1Or recognizeAMatt 7:20; 12:33; Luke 6:44; James 3:12know them by their fruits. 2Lit They do not gatherGrapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? 17  “So AMatt 12:33, 35every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18  “A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. 19  “AMatt 3:10; Luke 3:9; 13:7; John 15:2, 6Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20  “So then, you will 1Or recognizeknow them AMatt 7:16; 12:33; Luke 6:44; James 3:12by their fruits.
21 ALuke 6:46Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22  “AMatt 25:11f; Luke 13:25ffMany will say to Me on BMatt 10:15that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many 1Or works of powermiracles?’ 23  “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; APs 6:8; Matt 25:41; Luke 13:27ᴅᴇᴘᴀʀᴛ ꜰʀoᴍ Mᴇ, ʏoᴜ wʜo ᴘʀᴀcᴛɪcᴇ ʟᴀwʟᴇssɴᴇss.’
The Two Foundations
24 “Therefore AMatt 7:24-27: Luke 6:47-49; Matt 16:18; James 1:22-25everyone who hears these words of Mine and 1Lit doesacts on them, 2Lit willmay be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25  “And the rain fell, and the 1Lit riversfloods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. 26  “Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not 1Lit doact on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27  “The rain fell, and the 1Lit riversfloods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”
28 1Lit And it happened whenAMatt 11:1; 13:53; 19:1; 26:1When Jesus had finished these words, BMatt 13:54; 22:33; Mark 1:22; 6:2; 11:18; Luke 4:32; John 7:46the crowds were amazed at His teaching; 29 for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.
