Parable of the Good Shepherd
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is AJohn 10:8a thief and a robber.  “But he who enters by the door is AJohn 10:11fa shepherd of the sheep.  “To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear AJohn 10:4f, 16, 27his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and BJohn 10:9leads them out.  “When he puts forth all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know AJohn 10:5, 16, 27his voice.  “A stranger they simply will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know AJohn 10:4, 16, 27the voice of strangers.” This AJohn 16:25, 29; 2 Pet 2:22figure of speech Jesus spoke to them, but they did not understand what those things were which He had been saying to them.
So Jesus said to them again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am AJohn 10:1f, 9the door of the sheep.  “All who came before Me are AJer 23:1f; Ezek 34:2ff; John 10:1thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.  “AJohn 10:1f, 9I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 10  “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they AJohn 5:40may have life, and 1Or have abundancehave it abundantly.

I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. CJohn 14:31; 15:10; Phil 2:8; Heb 5:8This commandment I received from My Father.”
19 AJohn 7:43; 9:16A division occurred again among the Jews because of these words. 20 Many of them were saying, “He AJohn 7:20has a demon and BMark 3:21is insane. Why do you listen to Him?” 21 Others were saying, “These are not the sayings of one AMatt 4:24demon-possessed. BEx 4:11; John 9:32fA demon cannot open the eyes of the blind, can he?”
Jesus Asserts His Deity
22 At that time the Feast of the Dedication took place at Jerusalem; 23 it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple in the portico of AActs 3:11; 5:12Solomon. 24 AJohn 1:19; 10:31, 33The Jews then gathered around Him, and were saying to Him, “How long 1Lit do You lift up our soulwill You keep us in suspense? If You are 2I.e. the Messiahthe Christ, tell us BLuke 22:67; John 16:25plainly.” 25 Jesus answered them, AJohn 8:56, 58I told you, and you do not believe; BJohn 5:36; 10:38the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me. 26  “But you do not believe because AJohn 8:47you are not of My sheep. 27  “My sheep AJohn 10:4, 16hear My voice, and BJohn 10:14I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give AJohn 17:2f; 1 John 2:25; 5:11eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and BJohn 6:37, 39no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29  “1One early ms reads What My Father has given Me is greater than allMy Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30  “AJohn 17:21ffI and the Father are 1Or a unity; or one essenceone.”
31 The Jews AJohn 8:59picked up stones again to stone Him. 32 Jesus answered them, “I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?” 33 The Jews answered Him, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for ALev 24:16blasphemy; and because You, being a man, BJohn 5:18make Yourself out to be God.” 34 Jesus answered them, “Has it not been written in AJohn 8:17your BJohn 12:34; 15:25; Rom 3:19; 1 Cor 14:21Law, ‘CPs 82:6I sᴀɪᴅ, ʏoᴜ ᴀʀᴇ ɢoᴅs’? 35  “If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), 36 do you say of Him, whom the Father AJer 1:5; John 6:69sanctified and BJohn 3:17sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘CJohn 5:17f; 10:30I am the Son of God’? 37  “AJohn 10:25; 15:24If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; 38 but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe AJohn 10:25; 14:11the works, so that you may 1Lit know and continue knowingknow and understand that BJohn 14:10f, 20; 17:21, 23the Father is in Me, and I in the Father.” 39 Therefore AJohn 7:30they were seeking again to seize Him, and BLuke 4:30; John 8:59He eluded their grasp.
40 And He went away AJohn 1:28again beyond the Jordan to the place where John was first baptizing, and He was staying there. 41 Many came to Him and were saying, “While John performed no AJohn 2:11sign, yet BJohn 1:27, 30, 34; 3:27-30everything John said about this man was true.” 42 AJohn 7:31Many believed in Him there.
