1 Then the word of the Loʀᴅ came to me, saying, 2 “And you, son of man, will you judge, will you judge the bloody city? Then cause her to know all her abominations. 3  “You shall say, ‘Thus says the Lord 1Heb YHWH, usually rendered Loʀᴅ, and so throughout the chGoᴅ, “A city AEzek 22:6, 27; 23:37, 45shedding blood in her midst, so that her time will come, and that makes idols, contrary to her interest, for defilement! 4  “You have become A2 Kin 21:16; Ezek 24:7, 8guilty by 1Lit yourthe blood which you have shed, and defiled by your idols which you have made. Thus you have brought your 2Lit daysday near and have come to your years; therefore I have made you a BPs 44:13, 14; Ezek 5:14, 15; 16:57reproach to the nations and a mocking to all the lands. 5  “Those who are near and those who are far from you will mock you, you of ill repute, full of AIs 22:2turmoil.

6 “Behold, the AIs 1:23; Ezek 22:27rulers of Israel, each according to his 1Lit armpower, have been in you for the purpose of shedding blood. 7  “They have AEx 20:12; Lev 20:9; Deut 5:16; 27:16treated father and mother lightly within you. The BEx 22:21f; 23:9; Deut 24:17; Jer 7:6; Zech 7:10alien they have oppressed in your midst; the CEx 22:22; Ezek 22:25; Mal 3:5fatherless and the widow they have wronged in you. 8  “You have AEzek 22:26despised My holy things and BEzek 20:13, 21, 24; 23:38, 39profaned My sabbaths. 9  “Slanderous men have been in you for the purpose of shedding blood, and in you they have eaten at the mountain shrines. In your midst they have AEzek 23:29; Hos 4:2, 10, 14committed acts of lewdness. 10  “In you 1Lit he hasthey have ALev 18:8uncovered their fathers’ nakedness; in you they have humbled her who was BLev 18:19; Ezek 18:6unclean in her menstrual impurity. 11  “One has committed abomination with his AEzek 18:11; 33:26neighbor’s wife and another has lewdly defiled his BLev 18:15daughter-in-law. And another in you has C2 Sam 13:11-14humbled his sister, his father’s daughter. 12  “In you they have AEx 23:8; Deut 16:19; 27:25; Mic 7:2, 3taken bribes to shed blood; you have taken BLev 25:36; Deut 23:19interest and profits, and you have injured your neighbors for gain by CLev 19:13oppression, and you have DPs 106:21; Ezek 23:35forgotten Me,” declares the Lord Goᴅ.

13 “Behold, then, I smite My hand at your AIs 33:15; Amos 2:6-8; Mic 2:2dishonest gain which you have acquired and at 1Lit yourthe bloodshed which is among you. 14  “Can AEzek 21:7your heart endure, or can your hands be strong in the days that I will deal with you? BEzek 17:24I, the Loʀᴅ, have spoken and will act. 15  “I will ADeut 4:27; Neh 1:8; Ezek 20:23; Zech 7:14scatter you among the nations and I will disperse you through the lands, and I will BEzek 23:27, 48consume your uncleanness from you. 16  “You will profane yourself in the sight of the nations, and you will APs 83:18; Ezek 6:7know that I am the Loʀᴅ.” ’ ”

17 And the word of the Loʀᴅ came to me, saying, 18 “Son of man, the house of Israel has become APs 119:119; Is 1:22; Lam 4:1dross to Me; all of them are BJer 6:28-30bronze and tin and iron and lead in the CProv 17:3; Is 48:10furnace; they are the dross of silver. 19  “Therefore, thus says the Lord Goᴅ, ‘Because all of you have become dross, therefore, behold, I am going to gather you into the midst of Jerusalem. 20  ‘As they gather silver and bronze and iron and lead and tin into the AIs 1:25furnace to blow fire on it in order to melt it, so I will gather you in My anger and in My wrath and I will lay you there and melt you. 21  ‘I will gather you and blow on you with the fire of My wrath, and you will be melted in the midst of it. 22  ‘As silver is melted in the furnace, so you will be melted in the midst of it; and you will know that I, the Loʀᴅ, have AEzek 20:8, 33; Hos 5:10poured out My wrath on you.’ ”

23 And the word of the Loʀᴅ came to me, saying, 24 “Son of man, say to her, ‘You are a land that is AIs 9:13; Jer 2:30; Ezek 24:13; Zeph 3:2not cleansed or rained on in the day of indignation.’ 25  “There is a AJer 11:9; Hos 6:9conspiracy of her prophets in her midst like a roaring lion tearing the prey. They have BJer 2:34; Ezek 13:19; 22:27devoured lives; they have taken treasure and precious things; they have made many CJer 15:8; Ezek 22:7widows in the midst of her. 26  “Her AJer 2:8, 26; Ezek 7:26priests have done violence to My law and have B1 Sam 2:12-17, 22; Ezek 22:8profaned My holy things; they have made no CLev 10:10; Ezek 44:23distinction between the holy and the profane, and they have not taught the difference between the DHag 2:11-14unclean and the clean; and they hide their eyes from My sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. 27  “Her princes within her are like wolves tearing the prey, by shedding blood and AEzek 22:25destroying lives in order to get BEzek 22:13dishonest gain. 28  “Her prophets have smeared whitewash for them, seeing AJer 23:25-32; Ezek 13:6false visions and divining lies for them, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord Goᴅ,’ when the Loʀᴅ has not spoken. 29  “The people of the land have practiced AIs 5:7; Ezek 9:9; 22:7; Amos 3:10oppression and committed robbery, and they have wronged the poor and needy and have BEx 23:9oppressed the sojourner without justice. 30  “I AIs 59:16; 63:5; Jer 5:1searched for a man among them who would BEzek 13:5build up the wall and CPs 106:23; Jer 15:1stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found 1Lit notno one. 31  “Thus I have poured out My AIs 10:5; 13:5; 30:27; Ezek 22:20indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; BEzek 7:3, 8, 9; 9:10; 16:43; Rom 2:8, 9their way I have brought upon their heads,” declares the Lord Goᴅ.
