Separation from God
Behold, ANum 11:23; Is 50:2; Jer 32:17the Loʀᴅ’s hand is not so short
That it cannot save;
BIs 58:9; 65:24; Ezek 8:18Nor is His ear so dull
That it cannot hear.
But your AIs 1:15; 50:1iniquities have made a separation between you and your God,
And your sins have hidden His 1So versions; M.T. facesface from you so that He does BIs 58:4not hear.
For your AIs 1:15, 21; Jer 2:30, 34; Ezek 7:23; Hos 4:2hands are defiled with blood
And your fingers with iniquity;
Your lips have spoken BIs 28:15; 30:9; 59:13falsehood,
Your tongue mutters wickedness.
AIs 5:7; 59:14No one sues righteously and BIs 59:14, 15no one pleads 1Lit in truthhonestly.
They CIs 30:12; Jer 7:4, 8trust in confusion and speak lies;
They DJob 15:35; Ps 7:14; Is 33:11conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity.
They hatch adders’ eggs and AJob 8:14weave the spider’s web;
He who eats of their eggs dies,
And from that which is crushed a snake breaks forth.
Their webs will not become clothing,
Nor will they AIs 28:20cover themselves with their works;
Their BIs 57:12; Jer 6:7works are works of iniquity,
And an CIs 58:4; Ezek 7:11act of violence is in their 1Lit palmshands.
AProv 1:16; 6:17; Rom 3:15-17Their feet run to evil,
And they hasten to shed innocent blood;
BIs 65:2; 66:18; Mark 7:21, 22Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity,
Devastation and destruction are in their highways.
They do not know the ALuke 1:79way of peace,
And there is BIs 59:9, 11; Hos 4:1no justice in their tracks;
They have made their paths crooked,
CIs 57:20, 21Whoever treads on 1Lit itthem does not know peace.

A Confession of Wickedness
Therefore AIs 59:14justice is far from us,
And righteousness does not overtake us;
We BIs 5:30; 8:21, 22hope for light, but behold, darkness,
For brightness, but we walk in gloom.
10 We ADeut 28:29; Job 5:14grope along the wall like blind men,
We grope like those who have no eyes;
We BIs 8:14, 15; 28:13stumble at midday as in the twilight,
Among those who are vigorous we are CLam 3:6like dead men.
11 All of us growl like bears,
And AIs 38:14; Ezek 7:16moan sadly like doves;
We hope for BIs 59:9, 14justice, but there is none,
For salvation, but it is far from us.
12 For our AEzra 9:6; Is 58:1transgressions are multiplied before You,
And our BIs 3:9; Jer 14:7; Hos 5:5sins 1Lit answertestify against us;
For our transgressions are with us,
And 2Lit our iniquities we know themwe know our iniquities:
13 Transgressing and AJosh 24:27; Prov 30:9; Matt 10:33; Titus 1:16denying the Loʀᴅ,
And turning away from our God,
Speaking BIs 5:7; 30:12; Jer 9:3, 4oppression and revolt,
Conceiving in and CIs 59:3, 4; Mark 7:21, 22uttering from the heart lying words.
14 AIs 1:21; 5:7Justice is turned back,
And BIs 46:12; Hab 1:4righteousness stands far away;
For truth has stumbled in the street,
And uprightness cannot enter.
15 Yes, truth is lacking;
And he who turns aside from evil AIs 5:23; 10:2; 29:21; 32:7makes himself a prey.
Now the Loʀᴅ saw,
And it was 1Or evildispleasing in His sight BIs 1:21-23that there was no justice.
16 And He saw that there was AIs 41:28; 63:5; Ezek 22:30no man,
And was astonished that there was no one to intercede;
Then His BPs 98:1; Is 52:10; 63:5own arm brought salvation to Him,
And His righteousness upheld Him.
17 He put on AEph 6:14righteousness like a breastplate,
And a BEph 6:17; 1 Thess 5:8helmet of salvation on His head;
And He put on CIs 63:2, 3garments of vengeance for clothing
And wrapped Himself with DIs 9:7; 37:32; Zech 1:14zeal as a mantle.
18 AJob 34:11; Is 65:6, 7; 66:6; Jer 17:10According to their 1Lit recompensedeeds, 2Lit accordinglyso He will repay,
Wrath to His adversaries, recompense to His enemies;
To the coastlands He will 3Lit repaymake recompense.
19 So they will fear the name of the Loʀᴅ from the AIs 49:12west
And His glory from the BPs 113:3rising of the sun,
For He will CIs 30:28; 66:12come like a 1Lit narrowrushing stream
Which the wind of the Loʀᴅ drives.
20 “A ARom 11:26Redeemer will come to Zion,
And to those who BEzek 18:30, 31; Acts 2:38, 39turn from transgression in Jacob,” declares the Loʀᴅ.
21 “As for Me, this is My AJer 31:31-34; Rom 11:27covenant with them,” says the Loʀᴅ: “My BIs 11:2; 32:15; 44:3Spirit which is upon you, and My CIs 55:11words which I have put in your mouth shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your 1Lit seedoffspring, nor from the mouth of your 1Lit seedoffspring’s offspring,” says the Loʀᴅ, “from now and forever.”
