5 A wise man will hear and AProv 9:9increase in learning,
And a BProv 14:6; Eccl 9:11man of understanding will acquire wise counsel,
6 To understand a proverb and a figure,
The words of the wise and their ANum 12:8; Ps 49:4; 78:2; Dan 8:23riddles.

Fools despise wisdom and instruction.
The Enticement of Sinners
8 AProv 4:1Hear, my son, your father’s instruction
And BProv 6:20do not forsake your mother’s teaching;
9 Indeed, they are a AProv 4:9graceful wreath to your head

10 My son, if sinners AProv 16:29entice you,

11 If they say, “Come with us,

Even whole, as those who BPs 28:1go down to the pit;
13 We will find all kinds of precious wealth,
We will fill our houses with spoil;

Wisdom Warns
20 AProv 8:1-3; 9:3Wisdom shouts in the street,

21 At the head of the noisy streets she cries out;
At the entrance of the gates in the city she utters her sayings:

And BPs 1:1scoffers delight themselves in scoffing
And fools CProv 1:29; 5:12hate knowledge?
23 “Turn to my reproof,

I will make my words known to you.

I will mock when your CProv 10:24dread comes,
27 When your dread comes like a storm
And your calamity comes like a AProv 10:25whirlwind,
When distress and anguish come upon you.

They spurned all my reproof.
31 “So they shall AJob 4:8; Prov 5:22, 23; 22:8; Is 3:11; Jer 6:19eat of the fruit of their own way
And be BProv 14:14satiated with their own devices.
And the complacency of fools will destroy them.
And will be at ease from the dread of evil.”
