The Loʀᴅ Praised for Giving Deliverance.
For the choir director. A Psalm of David the servant of the Loʀᴅ, A2 Sam 22:1-51who spoke to the Loʀᴅ the words of this song in the day that the Loʀᴅ delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said,
“I love You, O Loʀᴅ, APs 59:17my strength.”
The Loʀᴅ is ADeut 32:18; 1 Sam 2:2; Ps 18:31, 46; 28:1; 31:3; 42:9; 71:3; 78:15my 1Or cragrock and BPs 144:2my fortress and my CPs 19:14deliverer,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My DPs 28:7; 33:20; 59:11; 84:9, 11; Prov 30:5shield and the EPs 75:10horn of my salvation, my FPs 59:9stronghold.
I call upon the Loʀᴅ, who is APs 48:1; 96:4; 145:3worthy to be praised,
And I am BPs 34:6saved from my enemies.

The APs 116:3cords of death encompassed me,
And the BPs 69:2; 124:3, 4torrents of 1Or destruction; Heb Belialungodliness 2Or were assailing or terrifyingterrified me.
The APs 116:3cords of 1I.e. the nether worldSheol surrounded me;
The snares of death confronted me.
In my APs 50:15; 120:1distress I called upon the Loʀᴅ,
And cried to my God for help;
He heard my voice BPs 3:4out of His temple,
And my CPs 34:15cry for help before Him came into His ears.

Then the AJudg 5:4; Ps 68:7, 8; Is 13:13; Hag 2:6earth shook and quaked;
And the BPs 114:4, 6foundations of the mountains were trembling
And were shaken, because He was angry.
Smoke went up 1Or in His wrathout of His nostrils,
And APs 50:3fire from His mouth devoured;
Coals were kindled by it.
He APs 144:5bowed the heavens also, and came down
With thick BPs 97:2darkness under His feet.
10 He rode upon a APs 80:1; 99:1cherub and flew;
And He sped upon the BPs 104:3wings of the wind.
11 He made ADeut 4:11darkness His hiding place, BPs 97:2His 1Or pavilioncanopy around Him,
Darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies.
12 From the APs 104:2brightness before Him passed His thick clouds,
Hailstones and BPs 97:3; 140:10; Hab 3:4coals of fire.
13 The Loʀᴅ also APs 29:3; 104:7thundered in the heavens,
And the Most High uttered His voice,
Hailstones and coals of fire.
14 He APs 144:6; Hab 3:11sent out His arrows, and scattered them,
And lightning flashes in abundance, and 1Lit confusedrouted them.
15 Then the APs 106:9channels of water appeared,
And the foundations of the world were 1Or uncoveredlaid bare
At Your BPs 76:6rebuke, O Loʀᴅ,
At the blast of the CPs 18:8breath of Your nostrils.

16 He APs 144:7sent from on high, He took me;
He drew me out of BPs 32:6many waters.
17 He APs 59:1delivered me from my strong enemy,
And from those who hated me, for they were BPs 35:10; 142:6too mighty for me.
18 They confronted me in APs 59:16the day of my calamity,
But BPs 16:8the Loʀᴅ was my stay.
19 He brought me forth also into a APs 4:1; 31:8; 118:5broad place;
He rescued me, because BPs 37:23; 41:11He delighted in me.

20 The Loʀᴅ has A1 Sam 24:19; Job 33:26; Ps 7:8rewarded me according to my righteousness;
According to the BJob 22:30; Ps 24:4cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me.
21 For I have APs 37:34; 119:33; Prov 8:32kept the ways of the Loʀᴅ,
And have B2 Chr 34:33; Ps 119:102not wickedly departed from my God.
22 For all APs 119:30His ordinances were before me,
And I did not put away His BPs 119:83statutes from me.
23 I was also 1Lit complete; or having integrity; or perfectAPs 18:32blameless with Him,
And I BPs 19:12, 13; 25:11; 66:18kept myself from my iniquity.
24 Therefore the Loʀᴅ has A1 Sam 26:23; Ps 18:20recompensed me according to my righteousness,
According to the cleanness of my hands in His eyes.

25 With A1 Kin 8:32; Ps 62:12; Matt 5:7the kind You show Yourself kind;
With the 1V 23, note 1blameless BPs 18:30You show Yourself blameless;
26 With the pure You show Yourself AJob 25:5; Hab 1:13pure,
And with the crooked BLev 26:23, 24, 27, 28; Prov 3:34You show Yourself 1Lit twistedastute.
27 For You APs 72:12save an afflicted people,
But BPs 101:5; Prov 6:17haughty eyes You abase.
28 For You A1 Kin 15:4; Job 18:6; Ps 132:17light my lamp;
The Loʀᴅ my God BPs 27:1illumines my darkness.
29 For by You I can 1Or crush a troopAPs 118:10-12run upon a troop;
And by my God I can BPs 18:33; 40:2leap over a wall.

30 As for God, His way is 1V 23, note 1ADeut 32:4; Ps 19:7; 145:17; Rev 15:3blameless;
The BPs 12:6word of the Loʀᴅ is tried;
He is a CPs 17:7; 91:4shield to all who take refuge in Him.
31 For ADeut 32:39; 1 Sam 2:2; Ps 86:8-10; Is 45:5who is God, but the Loʀᴅ?
And who is a BDeut 32:31; Ps 18:2; 62:2rock, except our God,
32 The God who APs 18:39; Is 45:5girds me with strength
And 1Or has mademakes my way 2Lit complete; or having integrityBPs 18:23blameless?
33 He AHab 3:19makes my feet like hinds’ feet,
And BDeut 32:13sets me upon my high places.
34 He APs 144:1trains my hands for battle,
So that my arms can BJob 29:20bend a bow of bronze.
35 You have also given me APs 33:20the shield of Your salvation,
And Your BPs 63:8; 119:117right hand upholds me;
And CPs 138:6Your 1Or condescensiongentleness makes me great.
36 You APs 18:33enlarge my steps under me,
And my 1Lit anklesBPs 66:9; Prov 4:12feet have not slipped.

37 I APs 44:5pursued my enemies and overtook them,
And I did not turn back BPs 37:20until they were consumed.
38 I shattered them, so that they were APs 36:12not able to rise;
They fell BPs 47:3under my feet.
39 For You have APs 18:32girded me with strength for battle;
You have 1Lit caused to bow downBPs 18:47subdued under me those who rose up against me.
40 You have also made my enemies APs 21:12turn their backs to me,
And I 1Or silencedBPs 94:23destroyed those who hated me.
41 They cried for help, but there was APs 50:22none to save,
Even to the Loʀᴅ, but BJob 27:9; Prov 1:28He did not answer them.
42 Then I beat them fine as the APs 83:13dust before the wind;
I emptied them out as the mire of the streets.

43 You have delivered me from the A2 Sam 3:1; 19:9; Ps 35:1contentions of the people;
You have placed me as B2 Sam 8:1-18; Ps 89:27head of the nations;
A CIs 55:5people whom I have not known serve me.
44 As soon as they hear, they obey me;
Foreigners 1Lit deceive me; i.e. give feigned obedienceAPs 66:3submit to me.
45 Foreigners APs 37:2fade away,
And BMic 7:17come trembling out of their 1Lit fastnessesfortresses.

46 The Loʀᴅ AJob 19:25lives, and blessed be BPs 18:2my rock;
And exalted be CPs 51:14the God of my salvation,
47 The God who APs 94:1executes vengeance for me,
And BPs 18:43; 47:3; 144:2subdues peoples under me.
48 He APs 3:7delivers me from my enemies;
Surely You BPs 27:6; 59:1lift me above those who rise up against me;
You rescue me from the CPs 11:5violent man.
49 Therefore I will ARom 15:9give thanks to You among the nations, O Loʀᴅ,
And I will BPs 108:1sing praises to Your name.
50 He gives great 1I.e. victories; lit salvationsAPs 21:1; 144:10deliverance to His king,
And shows lovingkindness to BPs 28:8His anointed,
To David and CPs 89:4his 2Lit seeddescendants forever.
