The Prophet Acknowledges
1 Woe is me! For I am
Like the fruit pickers, like the AIs 24:13grape gatherers.
There is not a cluster of grapes to eat,
And there is no upright person among men.
All of them lie in wait for BIs 59:7; Mic 3:10bloodshed;
Each of them hunts the other with a CJer 5:26; Hos 5:1net.
3 Concerning evil, both hands do it AProv 4:16, 17well.
The prince asks, also the judge, for a BAmos 5:12; Mic 3:11bribe,
And a great man speaks the desire of his soul;
So they weave it together.
4 The best of them is like a AEzek 2:6; 28:24briar,
The most upright like a BNah 1:10thorn hedge.
The day when you post your watchmen,
Your CIs 10:3; Hos 9:7punishment will come.
Then their DIs 22:5confusion will occur.
5 Do not AJer 9:4trust in a neighbor;
Do not have confidence in a friend.
From her who lies in your bosom
Guard 1Lit openings of your mouthyour lips.
6 For AMatt 10:21, 35; Luke 12:53son treats father contemptuously,
Daughter rises up against her mother,
Daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
BMatt 10:36A man’s enemies are the men of his own household.
God Is the Source of Salvation and Light
7 But as for me, I will AHab 2:1watch expectantly for the Loʀᴅ;
I will BPs 130:5; Is 25:9wait for the God of my salvation.
My CPs 4:3God will hear me.
Though I fall I will CAmos 9:11rise;
Though I dwell in darkness, the Loʀᴅ is a DIs 9:2light for me.
9 I will bear the indignation of the Loʀᴅ
Because I have sinned against Him,
Until He AJer 50:34pleads my case and executes justice for me.
He will bring me out to the BPs 37:6; Is 42:7, 16light,
10 Then my enemy will see,
And shame will cover her who AJoel 2:17said to me,
“Where is the Loʀᴅ your God?”
My eyes will look on her;
Like mire of the streets.
On that day will your boundary be extended.
From Assyria and the cities of Egypt,
From Egypt even to the 2Lit RiverEuphrates,
Even from sea to sea and mountain to mountain.
13 And the earth will become AJer 25:11; Mic 6:13desolate because of her inhabitants,
On account of the BIs 3:10, 11; Mic 3:4fruit of their deeds.

17 They will APs 72:9; Is 49:23lick the dust like a serpent,
Like BDeut 32:24reptiles of the earth.
They will come CPs 18:45trembling out of their 1Lit fastnessesfortresses;
To the Loʀᴅ our God they will come in DIs 25:3; 59:19dread
And they will be afraid before You.
18 Who is a God like You, who AEx 34:7, 9; Is 43:25pardons iniquity
And passes over the rebellious act of the BMic 2:12; 4:7; 5:7, 8remnant of His 1Or inheritancepossession?
He does not CPs 103:8, 9, 13retain His anger forever,
Because He DJer 32:41delights in 2Or lovingkindnessunchanging love.
19 He will again have compassion on us;
AJer 50:20He will tread our iniquities under foot.
