God’s Judgment Unavoidable
1 I saw the Lord standing beside the AAmos 3:14altar, and He said,
“Smite the capitals so that the BZeph 2:14thresholds will shake,
And CPs 68:21; Hab 3:13break them on the heads of them all!
Then I will DAmos 7:17slay the rest of them with the sword;
They will EJer 11:11not have a fugitive who will flee,
Or a refugee who will escape.
2 “Though they dig into APs 139:8Sheol,
From there will My hand take them;
And though they BJer 51:53; Obad 4ascend to heaven,
From there will I bring them down.
3 “Though they hide on the summit of Carmel,
I will AJer 16:16search them out and take them from there;
And though they BJob 34:22; Ps 139:9, 10conceal themselves from My sight on the floor of the sea,
From there I will command the CIs 27:1serpent and it will bite them.
4 “And though they go into ALev 26:33captivity before their enemies,
From there I will command the sword that it slay them,
And I will BLev 17:10; Jer 21:10; 39:16; 44:11set My eyes against them for evil and not for good.”
5 The Lord 1Heb YHWH, usually rendered Loʀᴅ, and so throughout the chGoᴅ of hosts,
The One who APs 104:32; 144:5; Is 64:1; Mic 1:4touches the land so that it melts,
And BAmos 8:8all those who dwell in it mourn,
And all of it rises up like the Nile
And subsides like the Nile of Egypt;
And has founded His vaulted dome over the earth,
He who BAmos 5:8calls for the waters of the sea
And CPs 104:6pours them out on the face of the earth,
DAmos 4:13The Loʀᴅ is His name.
7 “Are you not as the sons of A2 Chr 14:9, 12; Is 20:4; 43:3Ethiopia to Me,
O sons of Israel?” declares the Loʀᴅ.
“Have I not brought up Israel from the land of Egypt,
And the BDeut 2:23; Jer 47:4Philistines from Caphtor and the CAmos 1:5Arameans from D2 Kin 16:9; Is 22:6Kir?
8 “Behold, the AJer 44:27; Amos 9:4eyes of the Lord Goᴅ are on the sinful kingdom,
And I will BAmos 7:17; 9:10destroy it from the face of the earth;
Nevertheless, I will CJer 5:10; 30:11; 31:35, 36; Joel 2:32; Amos 3:12; Obad 17not totally destroy the house of Jacob,”
Declares the Loʀᴅ.
9 “For behold, I am commanding,
And I will AIs 30:28; Luke 22:31shake the house of Israel among all nations
As grain is shaken in a sieve,
But not a 1Or pebblekernel will fall to the ground.
10 “All the AIs 33:14; Zech 13:8sinners of My people will die by the sword,
Those who say, ‘BAmos 6:3The calamity will not overtake or confront us.’
The Restoration of Israel
11 “In that day I will AActs 15:16-18raise up the fallen 1Or shelter or tabernacleBIs 16:5booth of David,
And wall up its CPs 80:12breaches;
I will also raise up its ruins
And rebuild it as in the DIs 63:11; Jer 46:26days of old;
And all the 1Or Gentilesnations who are CIs 43:7called by My name,”
Declares the Loʀᴅ who does this.
13 “Behold, days are coming,” declares the Loʀᴅ,
“When the ALev 26:5plowman will overtake the reaper
And the treader of grapes him who sows seed;
When the BJoel 3:18mountains will drip sweet CGen 49:11wine
And all the hills will be dissolved.
14 “Also I will APs 53:6; Is 60:4; Jer 30:3, 18restore the 1Or fortunescaptivity of My people Israel,
And they will BIs 61:4; 65:21rebuild the ruined cities and live in them;
They will also CJer 24:6; 31:28plant vineyards and drink their wine,
And make gardens and eat their fruit.
15 “I will also plant them on their land,
And AIs 60:21; Ezek 34:28; 37:25they will not again be rooted out from their land
Which I have given them,”
Says the Loʀᴅ your God.
