1 Hear this word which the Loʀᴅ has spoken against you, sons of Israel, against the entire 1I.e. nationAJer 8:3; 13:11family which 2Lit IHe brought up from the land of Egypt:

3 Do two men walk together unless they have made an 1Or agreementappointment?
4 Does a APs 104:21; Hos 5:14; 11:10lion roar in the forest when he has no prey?
Does a young lion 1Lit give his voicegrowl from his den unless he has captured something?
5 Does a bird fall into a trap on the ground when there is no 1Or striker-bar setbait in it?
Does a trap spring up from the earth when it captures nothing at all?
6 If a AJer 4:5, 19, 21; 6:1; Hos 5:8; Zeph 1:16trumpet is blown in a city will not the people tremble?
If a BIs 14:24-27; 45:7calamity occurs in a city has not the Loʀᴅ done it?
Unless He AGen 6:13; 18:17; Jer 23:22; Dan 9:22; John 15:15reveals His secret counsel

11 Therefore, thus says the Lord Goᴅ,
“An AAmos 6:14enemy, even one surrounding the land,
Will pull down your 1Or strongholdstrength from you
And your BAmos 2:5citadels will be looted.”
12 Thus says the Loʀᴅ,
“Just as the shepherd 1Or deliversA1 Sam 17:34-37snatches from the lion’s mouth a couple of legs or a piece of an ear,
So will the sons of Israel dwelling in Samaria be 2Or deliveredsnatched away—
13 “Hear and AEzek 2:7testify against the house of Jacob,”
Declares the Lord Goᴅ, the God of hosts.
14 “For on the day that I punish Israel’s transgressions,
I will also punish the altars of A2 Kin 23:15; Hos 10:5-8, 14, 15; Amos 4:4; 5:5, 6; 7:10, 13Bethel;
The horns of the altar will be cut off
And they will fall to the ground.
15 “I will also smite the 1Or autumnAJer 36:22winter house together with the BJudg 3:20summer house;

And the DAmos 2:5; 6:11great houses will come to an end,”
